Please could anyone shed any light on where I should go?

My Great Grandfather John James Davies was born in Aldershot abt. 1878, married Anne Jones in Manchester, and died abt 1930. He was a tram driver in the Manchester area and was involved in a tram accident in which he suffered enough injuries for him to leave the job. He was compensated for this and started up his own coal merchant business in Manchester (John James Davies & Son) Does anyone out there know where I would go for further informationon this accident or indeed his coal business? Unfortunately I have no precise dates on him. According to my family, his coal business did not succeeed because he kept allowing people to have their coal 'on tick' and never getting paid for it!

Thanks in advance

Paul
