Thanks gibbo. :)

Possibly if the Qld. paper carried a late story:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Saturday 11 April 1908 p.26
FUNERALS
BEDFORD.-The Friends of Mrs. ALMA BEDFORD and FAMILY are kindly invited to attend the funeral of her dearly beloved HUSBAND and their FATHER, John Joseph Bedford, to move from their residence, 42 Lawson-crescent Alexandria, on MONDAY MORNING at 8.30, for R.C. Cemetery Rookwood.

John is not the only one with a missing reg. It still seems odd they would register some but not all the births.

No birth reg for this one either:

Death 9814/1925 BEDFORD HUGH - HUGH - MARGARET - SYDNEY

Hugh was probably born between William 1867 and Richard 1873. Enough room between 1867 and 1873 to fit John and Hugh in. Got to find a age for Hugh tho to prove that

Might have found something here. There is a Hugh Bedford in the papers for been in trouble and his age would fit. I then checked this out... NSW goal inmate photo indexes. I would say most likely the first fella as Richard was born in 1873 so that would eliminate the 2nd fella. What do you think?

BEDFORD Hugh born 1868 Sydney Goal Goulburn 3/05/1892
BEDFORD Hugh born 1873 Sydney Goal Bathurst 3/06/1891

I'm not sure. There is a death also if you want me to make this even more confusing for a daughter in 1867. So was she a twin of William and did they have a 2nd set of twins? :2fun:

No birth reg in NSW 1865-1875 for a Hugh.

No other death in NSW to 1981 for a Hugh.

It does seem we have 2x Hugh but death for only one in NSW.

If i have the right death for William Hugh Bedford

1969/1880 BEDFORD WILLIAM H RICHARD ELLEN SYDNEY

I was hoping a death notice for him might have said how many kids his left behind or something that may help but it doesnt.

Australian Town and Country Journal (NSW : 1870 - 1907)
Saturday 23 October 1880

BEDFORD.-October 12, at the Sydney Infirmary, William Hugh Bedford, plasterer, aged 34 years.

Thanks.

I had not looked for a death for parents.

The marriage has Margaret's name as JENON not LENON.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Saturday 23 February 1889
POLICE.
Mr. Johnson, S.M., presided in the Charge Division of the Central Police Court.
...
Hugh Bedford, 18, wood carter, for stealing a quantity of firewood valued at 6s., the property of the Commissioner for Railways, was sent to gaol for 14 days, with hard labour.

1871 now so it's possible we only have 1x Hugh.

Thanks. Great find. ;)

Maybe they were not sick but perhaps parents were.

Probable death:

1461/1882 BEDFORD MARGARET AGE 34 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY

caring for the poor, abandoned, destitute and sick.
So the children could have been sick.

Oh. Son Hugh didn't manage 34 times.

The children were probably admitted at the time Margaret was sent away.

Margaret appears to have spent a few sentences from time to time in jail. I wonder if she had any of the kids while she was locked up hence their births werent registered:confused:

OH:eek::eek: It appears when Hugh and John were discharged from the Benevolent asylum they were sent to the Randwick Asylum. The date below is the same date they were discharged from Benevolent.

Child Welfare - Randwick Asylum for Destitute Children, 1852-1915

BEDFORD Hugh - age 9 date 20 Jul 1876
BEDFORD John - age 7 date 20 Jul 1876

Thanks Julie.

I thought as much when I posted the piece from the newspaper with Hugh aged 18 in 1889, so falling between those two.

That could be the reason some reg can't be found.
