Possible death in 1917 for John and 1925 for Margaret, both in Lanark.

I'd like a look up for the family in 1881, 1891 and 1901 please.

That's the only ref I've seen so far that shows John senior with a middle name.

Regards,

Dave

Will be very interested in what else you find out about this family, Dave. One different name in a census could be a mistake but not 3. Was he hiding something or just an awkward old ** who didn't like being asked his business by the enumerator?

Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much.

I will certainly try to solve this mystery within the next 366 days.

I have a death certificate too of one of the KELTIE's and a James MASTERTON is the informant. There are old topics here where we try to find the right James, and fail.

Happy New Year.

Hello Barbara,

Parents marriage:

James KELTIE & Cecilia MASTERTON
4 Sep 1835 Torryburn, Fife

He was not born before the marriage so he is not taking his mother's name.

name: Margaret Wright Keltie
gender: Female
baptism/christening date:
baptism/christening place:
birth date: 11 May 1881
birthplace: Johnstone & Elderslie, Renfrew, Scotland
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: John Masterton Keltie
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Margaret Caldwell
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: C01882-0
system origin: Scotland-EASy
source film number: 232659
reference number: v 559-3 p 64

I would say he gave the enumerator his middle name and it's been taken as the family name, or the transcription has left off the Keltie bit.

Not being able to look at the original doesn't help but 3 times seems a bit much unless they had the same enumerator:2fun::2fun:

Barbara
That is a good point.

It certainly looks the right family. Torryburn and Limekilns and son John with middle initial C.

I purchased 60 credits yesterday but I think I'll use most of them on death certificates.
