John KILFEDER b. ? d. ? Ireland
married 1834 ? Leitrim ?
Ann KNOX b. ? d. 8 Jul 1869

I have searched all of Ireland in the IFHF database using KILFEDER and KILFEDDER and Ann/Anne and can't find the 1869 death anywhere.

Issue: 8
1. Robert b. 4 Feb 1835 Kinlough ? d. 31 May 1903 Brisbane, Qld., Aust.
2. William did not go to Australia
3. John went to Australia
4. James Michael went
5. Alexander did not go
6. Alice did not go
7. Rebecca went
8. Mary Ann ??

Any help with John and Ann and with the deaths in Ireland of those children who did not go to Australia would be greatly appreciated.

Hello juliejtp,

Have you used that site much? Have you tried to find an Irish marriage that you have all the details of? I'm a retired computer programmer with 45 years experience in using computers and when I use that site I feel like a beta tester. I have sent off numerous emails asking why it is set up the way it is. I was told that if you want to search for a marriage NOT to choose event type of 'Marriage'. You don't search the site for ANY events. You search for an individual, for whom you may have some information that MIGHT match what has been entered into the database. So, for a marriage you have to chose 'All Events' and 'Partial' and then try to refine the 4700 hits. I've told them I've given up being a beta tester.

Sorry for the rant. That site is a pain, even worse than ScotlandsPeople.

Hello Dave

I've found these civil registration entries for you:

Anne Kilfedder, died 1869 aged 52, Registration district Ballyshannon, Vol 12. Page 11.
John Kilfedder, died Q3 1884 aged 78, Registration district Ballyshannon, Vol 2 Page 12.
Alexander Kilfeder (one 'd'), married 1870, Registration district Sligo, Vol 17 Page 333.
Alexander Kilfedder, died Q2 1887 aged 43, Registration district Ballyshannon, Vol 2 Page 43.
Alice Kilfedder, married 1870, Registration district Ballyshannon Vol 12 Page 1.

With those details you should be able to obtain a photocopy of each of the bmd certificates (6 Euros each, by post only). You can download the application forms at www.groireland.ie.

I hope this helps.

Hello Siobhan,

Thank you very much. Yes, it helps. That fills in some gaps in my tree. Yes, when I have more information I will be in a better position to decide which ones I should purchase and which ones I won't be able to afford.

Regards,

Dave

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.) - Tue 23 Feb 1915 p.1

(Present address, "Kinlough" 111 Mollison street, Bendigo.)

... but Mrs. Kilfeder came to Melbourne two years before her future husband. Mr. Kilfeder had only been in the country 14 days when the marriage took place ...

I found that notice earlier today so now searching again for arrival of James Michael. No arrival found for brother John or sister Mary Ann.

So arrived Victoria in February 1865.

John married in 1868. Location and date of Mary Ann's marriage is in doubt.
