Relationship to Head of Household: Visitor
Schedule Type: Household

Reuben is married and in Essex in 1841.

I'd like a look up please for that household. Also for John in 1841. Spouse was Elizabeth.

Hello Emeltee,

Thank you very much. Born Elmswell would fit although I have nothing yet to say he was born there. No others appear in the 1851 search for a John the right age in FS.

I don't have the marraige yet but it is John and Elizabeth from the 1815 baptism of son Reuben. One of the problems is the 4 variations of the name Linder/Lander/Leader/Leeder

Fanny Leeder c. 6 Aug 1843 Great Ilford, Essex
Ruben Leeder & Martha

Martha Leader c. 4 May 1845 Great Ilford, Essex
Ruben Leader & Martha

From the 1848 shipping record Elizabeth had died and John was living in 'Amswell' = Elmswell - that is RD Stow.

This is probably his death.

Deaths Sep 1855
Leader John Stow 4a _9_ ?

That may or may not be the right John in 1851.

Dave

I just found this post during a Google search, so I joined so I can respond.

The John Leeder you found in the 1851 census is most definitely the father of Reuben Leeder/Leader (1815-1888 ). This is my family, and I have quite a few letters and documents relating to them.

John Leeder was married in Elswell, Suffolk in 1815 to Elizabeth Wright, widow (nee Elizabeth Finton or Fenton). John (born c1794) was considerably younger than Elizabeth (born 1775). They had two other children apart from Reuben, Ann Leeder (b 1813) and Maria Leeder (baptised 1815 on the same day as Reuben, but not necessarily a twin.)

John was originally a carpenter but later worked as a farm labourer. On his marriage, he's described as "John Leeder Jr., meaning that his father was also called John)

I'll digout my notes and see what else I can find for you.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

Thanks for the info. This is way out on a branch of my tree so I'm not related to Leeder family.

In my tree because of this marriage:

Wesleyan Marriages in the Goulburn Circuit
Frederick William Newbery
Mary Ann Furner
10 June 1848 at Goulburn By me William Lightbody
Witnesses: Philip Steer of Goulburn, Charles Furner of Goulburn

John in 1841 seems to be the only query remaining.

John Leeder in the 1841 census is as follows:

HO 107/323/5

Enumeration District 7
County: Essex
parish of Barking Barking
Great Ilford Ward

John Leeder 40 Ag Lab N
James Thredder 20 do. Y
Robert Moore 30 Dealer Y
Willm Moore 8 - N

The family moved to Ilford prior to Reuben sailing for Australia.
John's wife Elizabeth died at Ilford in 1838.

I can send you a copy of the census page if you want it.
