Can't find him in 1861 but if you are interested in 1841 he is in All Saints, Northampton with wife Ann, sons James 11, William 9, Whitmore 2 and daughter Mary 10 mths. He is a Veterinary Surgeon.

Not bad for a Linen Draper!

He died in India.

Whitmore Girling died 11/1/1895 aged 55 yrs 10 mths. Buried 12/1/1895 in the Military Burial Ground of Fort William in Bengal. Occ Assistant Engineer P W D. He died of Senile Apoplexy.

There is a long obituary in a New Zealand newspaper. Brother William B. died in NZ.

I was wondering if they were using the name Baker but gave that idea away.
