John Nelmes Hines

I am trying to find links with John Nelmes Hines born about 1838 in Bristol Glouc and emigrated to Australia with another John Nelmes Hines mentioned in the London Gazette on 5th July 1918 as a Lt. in the New Zealand forces. Commended for conspicious gallentry and devotion to duty.

I would be most pleased to have any details of their ancestors or descendants.

Can any one shed any light on the middle name Nelmes which I thought most likely to be a maternal surname at some point. There is a Thomas Nelmes born 1758 in Bristol married in 1785 to a Mary Batten. The name otherwise is very rare and I suspect there is a link somewhere here too.

There is a submitted entry on the famlysearch site for Johns death his spouse is a Sabina Coppin, looks like they didnt know as to where he was born as the they have put 1837 South Australia.

Thanks yet again. Yes I have found Sabrina Coppin, but I have only found one daughter Augusta Ann Mary Hines born 19 6 1867 Adelaide. She Married a Leopold Conrad in Nov 1886. The Hines lines seems to stop as I cannot trace any other children for John Nelmes and Sabrina

Just come across a extracted record on familysearch for John Nelmes Hines married Mary Ann Wigzell, 4 Dec 1879, Kensington and Norwood, South Australia.

Using the same batch number a Mary Hines married John Bailes 12 Nov 1885, Kensington and Norwood.

The Nelmes name comes from his grandmother Hanna Nelmes.
