Hello,

I wonder if anyone could help me find the marriage details of a John Rich c1818 born in Knockholt He was married to Elizabeth c1824 born in Edenbridge. It looks as though their eldest child was born c1845

I did find a John Rich married in 1845 in Malling but I don't know how to cross reference it to see if he married an Elizabeth or if Malling would be the right district.
I'm afraid I have no other details.

I would be grateful for any help.

Thank you
Elanter

Hi Elanter,

The females listed in the marriage index with John Rich are Ann Annett, Caroline Ellet and Susanna Jeffrey.

John and Elizabeth appear on the 1851 census with family, but not showing up on the 1841 the only John Rich is born abt 1816 with a Mary Rich and a child William all born Kent, his occ looks like sailor but could be tailor.

Suggest that you obtain the eldest childs birth cert and the youngest as well
his will show the mothers maiden name.

Just found a John Rich on the 1841 census age 30 occ carpenter living in the civil parish of Chatham, looks like his parents Elizabeth and Henry Rich. As the 1841 census census dosnt give relationships you cannot tell whether he is married or not.

Hi Julie,

Many thanks for looking up for me.

You know I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that one of the three ladies was Elizabeth. My grandmother Matilda Hannah was always called Annie and it took me ages to realise that her sister Eliza was my g aunt Alice. My aunt
Ann was called Nancy, and that's just to name a few.

Probably unlikely John was a carpenter as I've found him listed as an Ag Lab but you never know.

I think the birth certificates will be the best idea. I will look at the 1851/1941 census' as there were Henrys and Williams in the family.

Thanks again, you been very helpful

Re: John Rich Elizabeth Wickenden

Thank you so much for that

I think this must be the right Elizabeth as I recently found one of the Riches listed as a nephew staying with a Wickenden family but couldn't quite make a connection.

Thank you again, you've really helped.
