John was married to Martha Shephard 1731 St Benets Pauls Wharf, on the marriage it says both John and Martha were of Epsom Surrey. It's said John died 1765 Ewell Surrey although he spent many years living in Finsbury, working as a cooper and soap manufacturer. The business was passed on to his sons George and Jesse and another son James also worked at the business.

I've been looking for John's baptism around the Epsom area, but I've also been told he was actually born in Newcastle Under Lyme in 1699 and his father was possibly a Joseph Russell. Unfortunately there is a mystery around his birth and no evidence to back it up, and there doesn't seem to be a baptism for a possible illegitimate child. I would like to solve this mystery and looking into another mystery which was found on son George's grave in Foots Cray Kent.

Many thanks
Amanda
