Apart from the birth reg in 1856 for Catherine I have nothing pre 1875 arrival of the sisters.

His army record says he was in Canada for 6 years so think Ruth went with him.
Having trouble finding him in other census and this could be why.

The 71 wasn't transcribed very well, John is a lab at ironworks and Samuel is a soldier born Montreal. Mary was born at Ashlone or Athlone in Ireland

That's curious. One tree has Ruth's death in Greenwich in 1882.

Another tree has Ruth's maiden name as JARRETT and no death.

Looks like it. One tree agrees that Sarah Ann married brothers.

One tree has Ruth born 1818 Cambria. If that is Cumbria I still can't find a birth/baptism.
