Hi,

I have John and daughter Gladys in 1901 with Johns father in law Joseph Hampton. Wife Annie Townsend nee Hampton died 1899. They are living in Bristol. John was born 1849 Gloucester and Gladys 1892 Bristol. Johns occupation is cooper. I've been unable to locate these two in 1911

Thanks :)

Hi Geoff,

That one confused me as well. I couldn't find any connection, well so far anyway. Morgan was Laura's married name and I couldn't find a Gladys with her on earlier censues. If it's correct that she was stepdaughter to that John then her birth name would be different, assuming so.

Found Florence, Glady's mother?, in 1911, married name Shimmings, but bot John or Gladys. (Florence's child on 1911 John Townsend Shimmings)

Hi Dave,

I've got Florence. She was Gladys half sister. I did initially think the death for a John Townsend in 1919 was him but there is another John who died in 1919 Bristol and looking at a probate it's not him.

Easton Road is the only other connection that I could see, in 1901 the family were at 124 Easton Road. Unfortunately the Enum' Book starts at 124 Easton Road so I couldn't check no. 97 :(

Hi Geoff,

I've just checked that as well. I'm going to check back on my Townsend's and see if John born abt 1825 shows up. :)

Hi,

I've looked at my Townsend's and the only other John was born about 1832.
I've not been able to account for my x granddads two brothers so I cant tell if he belongs to any of them.

I've not really checked into the family in any depth, but this John is traceable back to 1851 and appears to be the one in 1911 (Easton Rd) in the censuses..

Probable Marriage:
Q1 1847
EVES James
Johnson Sevilla
Pearce George
PRICE Elizabeth
SANDERS Emma
TOWNSEND John
Cheltenham
11 193

1901
Civil Parish: Bristol
County: Gloucestershire
RG 13/281

John Townsend 76 [b. Goucestershire. Retired Cooper]
Sevilla Townsend 76 Wife [b. Cheltenham.
Laura Morgan 36 Dau. Wid. [b. Bristol. Dressmaker]
[Laura Townsend]
Laura W Morgan 11 G'dau. [b. Bristol, Mother Laura Morgan]
Elsie G Morgan 10 G'dau. [b. Bristol, do]

Probable death:
Q4 1911
Townsend John
87
Bristol
6a 184

Re: John Townsend and daughter Gladys Blanche Townsend-COMPLETED

Hi Geoff,

Looks like we're coming up with the same info. John's son William was in Chatham Kent in 1901 and back in Bristol in 1911. John isn't with him in 1911. I may have to look through the death registrations 1/4 by quarter, as his death may not have been transcribed by free BMD. As for Gladys I've looked and looked and still can't find anything definate.

Hi,

A Gladys Blanche Townsend born about 1892 died 7 June 1912 Claremont WA.
This was taken from Townsend surname in Australia. There are no other details for Gladys on this site.

Just more thing. A Laura Morgan married 1910 Bristol one of the grooms listed is a John Townsend. So it does look like that Gladys is the right one in 1911.:) Stepdaughter was to Laura not to her father John Townsend.
