I am looking for John Wilson Davies (known as Jack) b 1895 Liverpool. I have his marriage cert from 1920 when he married Nancy NcGrevy and his address is down as Celt Street Liverpool and he describes himself as a theatrical performer!!

Also, He wasn't at home with his parents on the 1901, may have been at sea, but again can't find him.

I am trying to narrow it down so that I can look up his army service records whilst they are free! You can imagine how many John Davies' there are on the army list. I have looked a few but with no idea of his occupation or his address around 1914 I'm lost. He was shot at the Battle of the Somme and lost the use of his arm so I would love to read his records.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards

Gaynor

Thanks for that quick work, Dave. When he married he lived at 28 Celt St. so he didn't move very far, just a few doors up!! I'll presume that he didn't move very far after his marriage either so I will aim for that area for the service records...fingers crossed.

I didn't know about Frank Cecil either so thank you.

Hi Bubble
I don't know if this your John.
The only reason I mention the record is because of his middle name.
John Wilson Davies 4 The Kings Gap Hoylake no occupation.
1938 Gores/Kellys Directory.

Pleased to have helped.
I wonder where baby Gladys M has gone from 1901 census?
Also John D??
In the Gores/Kellys 1911 their house number is not listed in Celt St.
From what Dave listed in the following census after 1901, there is Elizabeth and sons John & Frank Cecil.

Hi ozn,

John D was apparently in the workhouse, hopefully ill and not poor!

As for baby Gladys I can only presume she died as she was there in 1901 and gone by 1911. It all appears sad at that time!!

Hope your searches are better. Thanks for your help with mine.

Hi Gaynor
So sad about John D in the workhouse.
I'd say he was probably too feeble to be looked after at home.
He was in Kirkdale Workhouse and Home
Westminster Road.
Liverpool R.O is under a refurb. The records are kept there.
I'll email a pal who is a vollie there, and ask if she can have a squizz for you, when the records are open. Some are available at various locations.
These could be at Sandhills. I think there is a 100 yr closure but not for admissions and discharges, but, don't quote me:)

Hi Gaynor
I'm messaged my contact to ask if and when Kirkdale workhouse records will be available.
At the moment LRO is stored at the Museum with limited access of course.
Will keep you posted.

Warmies
