My father left his family when I was a toddler and went to Australia. He took his own life on 8th September 1965 at 236 Vulture Street, Brisbane and was cremated at Mount Gravatt Cemetery on 1st October. I have his death certificate but what I'm asking for is some local knowledge. About five years ago I contacted the local Brisbane paper to ask if they had archives available to access any report on my fathers death, but unfortunately I heard nothing back. I know this is a real long-shot, but would any forum members be able to help?

Hi again :)

What appears to be your father's burial index.
Cemetery: Mt Gravatt Cemetery

Chermside Judith Burial or Ashes Interred Date 05 / 10 / 1965 26 years
Lee John David Burial or Ashes Interred Date 05 / 10 / 1965 29 years
Goodson Sharon Leanne Burial or Ashes Interred Date15 / 12 / 1965 1 days

Part Monumental
Portion 1A
Section 3
Grave Number 393

Try emailing the Queensland State Library and give them the dates and his name etc and ask them if they would have a newspaper article concerning him. Explain that you are in England etc. The QSL usually do a FREE 2 hours search and they do have the newspapers.

With him taking his own life there may have been a inquest into his death. You could try contacting the QLD archives and see if they do hold a record on him.

With it been in the 1965 era a lot of records arent online.

Your welcome. Good luck with it :)
Hi gibbo, I've contacted the state archives and library, they were more than helpful but unfortunately they have no records. Thanks once again for your help on everything, I know where to come in future! I'll let you know if I get to the bottom of as to why Alfred Candy's family went to Aus and then came back to England so quickly! All the best to you, Chris O0
