Joseph and Margaret were living in Twickenham in 1802, when their eldest son Daniel was born and they had six children, their last daughter born in 1812. I think Joseph died in 1818 as Margaret remarried:

Name: Margaret Finch
Spouse: James Knight
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 13 Nov 1819
Parish: St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham
Borough: Richmond upon Thames
Register Type: Bishop's Transcript

Margaret's death:

ame: Margaret Knight
Record Type: Burial
Age: 95
Estimated birth year: abt 1774
Death Date: 10 Jan 1869
Burial Date: 10 Jan 1869
Burial Place: Saint Mary the Virgin, Twickenham, England
Parish or Poor Law Union: Saint Mary the Virgin, Twickenham
Borough: Richmond Upon Thames
Register Type: Bishop's Transcript

In the 1861 census Margaret says she is from Oswestry Shropshire, I would like the marriage for Margaret and Joseph and their baptisms if possible please??

Many thanks

Amanda

Hi Lizzy

I don't know about the marriage, I wonder what they were doing in Huntingdon  But Margaret said she was from Oswestry in the 1861 census, must keep this in mind :) I wonder if Joseph was from Cambridgeshire then??
If that is correct, it's another case of how did they meet??

No, could only find her in 1841 and 1861....wish I could find her there. I don't have any information on Margaret and Joseph's second son....coincidentally Edward b1804 in Twickenham, and only a birth and a death for their eldest son Daniel b 1802. They don't seem to have made any census :(

May or may not be useful, there is also this bap. in Oswestry 1771, though may be a bit early as she was 95y when she d. in 1869..

PR, page 307:
1771 Nov. 19. Margt., d. of Mr. John Howell, Treverclawdd,
& Mary... bap.

I've found only five baptisms, who is the sixth?
Daniel 1802, Edward 1804, Ann 1807, Hannah 1809, Caroline 1812.

I cannot find a trace of Edward; unsure about Daniel as there's a possible burial record for him in 1870 Saint Mary the Virgin, Twickenham (born 1799); I've not found marriages for Daniel and Edward. I have marriages for the three girls but you probably have those.

Do you know what?? I can't find another one!! how strange?? I'm sure I saw a Joseph in there, but I must have been dreaming because I can't find it now

Yes just for a change the girls were easy to find, although only recently I noticed they all had one baby outside of marriage, which is why I was having trouble looking for Ann's eldest daughter Caroline who was baptised Finch not Taylor!!

I wonder if this could be Joseph??

Birth Place: Swavecy, Cambridge, England
Gender: Male
Father: John Finch
Mother: Elizabeth
Meeting: Monthly Meeting of Huntingdon: Sutton

But this would mean he married out of his church :(

It would appear the marriage above was the correct one, Margaret and Joseph went on after their marriage to have their first child in Liverpool in 1800 a girl Mary was baptised at St Nicholas church in the city. By 1801 they were back in Twickenham where Mary was buried in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin.
It also seems Joseph wasn't with Margaret when he died in Chaldon Surrey 1818. A Joseph and Louise Finch baptised a son Edward in Chaldon 1816, Joseph was a pauper.

I was wondering how Joseph and Margaret may have met and why they married so far from home?? Joseph was a cordwainer by trade like his father Daniel.

It seems his son Daniel didn't follow in the trade and became a Blacksmith, but I also found he travelled too, he appears in at least two census 1841 and 1851 in Northamptonshire. But there seems to be a death for him too in Twickenham in 1870.

I'm intrigued with this family with the travelling and another odd thing, all three daughters had babies out of wedlock before they were married which I thought was unusual for the time?? Could Joseph be an early Hippy??
