I wonder if the second marriage was registered. Goulburn about 1886 ??? I wonder how old Alice was. I can't see if it was her 2nd or if she remarried after Joseph died. I also can't find her death.

Can we rule it out somehow?

His brother was the informant so did Alice die before 1898?

Death # 6066/1906 LUTTON ALICE M EDWARD RACHEL NEWTOWN

I can not find a marriage in NSW for an Alice M to a PALMER.

I can't see a marriage of an Edward PALMER to a Rachel.

I would say it was Alice's 2nd marriage because there are no PALMER deaths in NSW with parents Edward & Rachel.

No births early enough in NSW for an Alice Anything with parents Edward & Rachel.

I'm stuck with Alice. Too many Edward PALMERs to search on the assumption that's her maiden name.

I'm also stuck with the marriage James is said to have had in Bristol and his arrival about 1863.

There are plenty of LUTON /LEWTON marriages in Gloucester & Somerset in IGI but all too early or too late.

From a different angle. Assuming James b. abt 1822 did marry in Bristol and that his spouse was Ann then two possible deaths in that area Gloucester / Somerset:

Of course one of those might be his mother (nee HODGES b. ?? d. ?? not found in census yet).

I don't have James in any census.

James is probably also born (abt 1822) in Kingswood, Bristol, Gloucestershire.

I don't know where he would be in 1841, 1851 or 1861.

In NSW he was a produce dealer like his father Aaron. I suppose it could be listed as hawker or merchant.
