So in 1871 Kate Chatterton is a sister-in-law of James Faulkner, possible sister = Ellen. But in 1861 she is not noted to be related to the Chattertons'. In the same 1861 census Thomas Hanson is noted to be a son-in-law of William and Sarah Chatterton..

Bit by bit

I can't find the links Geoff.

I can't even sort out the 1850 marriage. is it Hull or Sheffield? What is the correct page no?

The birth reg for Katie seems to be the only one with mmn Mitchell.

Thanks Geoff.

I didn't know of that site. :)

It depends on the page and the page could be 523.

GRO Index: 1850 quarter 2, volume 22, page 523:

This marriage was at Sheffield St Peter & St Paul (RD: Sheffield).

The problem with that, is that there is no Jane Mitchell in the page 523.

Yes. Jane is clearly Hull and 323.

The other odd thing is there are no other births with mmn Mitchell 1850 - 1858 or after 1858.

Census has wife as Sarah. ? Jane must have died but can't find a marriage to Sarah.

Thanks Geoff.

I've just been searching GRO births around 1843 for Chatterton/Mitchell/Hamson/Hanson looking for Elizabeth or Betsy or Ellen or combination in Sheffield and nothing so far.

I found this one there but not the 1850 one ??

Marriages Sep 1853
CHATTERTON William Sheffield 9c 439
HANSON Phebe Sheffield 9c 439

So Katie born 1858 with mmn Mitchell ?? Then 1850 marriage is out ?

But if Ellen was born abt 1843 as Hamson/Hanson ??

OK. Why is the 1850 one not there?

William married Phoebe but in 1861 he is married to Sarah and no death for Phoebe ??

Makes it very clear now.

HANSON, THOMAS - MITCHELL
GRO Reference: 1845 M Quarter in SHEFFIELD Volume 22 Page 634

HANSON, ELLEN - MITCHELL
GRO Reference: 1842 J Quarter in ECCLESALL BIERLOW UNION Volume 22 Page 121

How to explain that?
