Trying to find a Joseph Murry Burgess and family in 1851/1861/1871 British Census - with son Thomas (b abt 1843 possibly Witton).

Have found Thomas in 1861 and 1871 Census boardering in Northwich and also have his wedding certificate for 1867.

Any help most appreciated.

Hello,

In 1851, there are three boys named Thomas Burgess with father Joseph, living in Cheshire. They are in Brinnington, Tabley Superior and Sale. Their birth years are 1842, 1842 and 1844 respectively. Do you have the name of Thomas's mother or any of his siblings? This would help to narrow the search.

Thanks,

Josie :)

Hi

Have you tried following Ann Pimlott, who was living with Thomas in 1891/1901. She was unmarried and lived at 25 New St Altrincham from at least 1851 to 1891. Thomas's two eldest children Edith and Joeseph were with her in 1881.

there is a big gap between Joseph 1876 to the next child Mary E in 1883. Was Mary Ann, Thomas's wife maiden name Graham? There was a Mary Graham born 1848 to Ann Pimlott's sister Mary.

EDIT
Marriages Mar 1867

Burgess Thomas Altrincham 8a 216
GRAHAM Mary Ann Altrincham 8a 216
Knight Margaret Charlotte Altrincham 8a 216
Norris Thomas Potter Altrincham 8a 216

EDIT 2
1881 - RG11-3503-67-3 Mary A Burgess 33 Serv, with Elizabeth A 13,
1871 - RG10 - 3682-9-11 Mary A 23 Neice with Elizabeth A 3 dau living with Ann Pimlott

Thank you all for your speedy look-ups.

From Thomas's marriage certificate it notes Joseph Murry (father) who was a labourer. Perhaps father Joseph wasn't a Burgess, but a Murry? The witnesses were a X the mark of Ann Pimlott and James Harriett (all who I can connect to the family).

You are quite right about the Pimlott connection, - Thomas married Mary Ann Graham - her mother was a Pimlott.

Thomas birth place is noted as Northwich in 1861 and 1871 census. He was a plasterer. Born about 1844.

We are really stuck on uncovering our Thomas - any help guidance most appreciated.

Josie, the Thomas born 1844 living in Sale in 1951 Census sounds promising, can you let me know more about that Burgess Family>

thanks so much.

Hello,

Here are the details.

Class: HO107; Piece: 2162; Folio: 287; Page: 27

All members of the household are called Burgess and they live in Sale, Ashton on Mersey. The RD is Altrincham and the Sub RD is Wilmslow.

Joseph, the Head, aged 46 was born in Hale and was a Farmer of 8 acres, employing one labourer.

All other family members (his wife and children) were born in Sale.

Alice 55
William 18
Samuel 17
Alice 14
Sarah 12
Joseph 10
Martha 8
Thomas 7
Hannah 5
James 3

It seems inconsistent that a 55-year-old would have a 3-year-old child. Perhaps her age has been mistranscribed?

 Looks like Joseph and Alice aged 20 years from 1841 census to 1851 census. Thanks so much for the info - I think I will order a birth certificate from one of the children to clarify.
