My name is Steve. I live in South Australia. I have joined in an effort to discover more about my family name, and it's heritage. I have been able to trace it back to Joseph Thomas Mole, who emigrated to Australia in 1852. I also believe that his parents were Joseph and Ann Mole from Upwell Cambridgeshire. I am seeking confirmation of this and more detail of the UK heritage.

Re: New Member

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum.

Found this family (whether they are any connection to yours?) on the 1841 census.

civil parish Outwell, reg dist Wisbech, sub reg dist Upwell, county Cambridgeshire

Ann Mole age 35 born in county occ dressmaker
Ann Mole age 15 born out of county
Elizabeth Mole age 15 born out of county
Joseph Mole age 11 born out of county

living next door is:-

Joseph Mole age 70 occ farrier born out of county
Jeremiah Mole age 25 occ bricklayer born out of county
Sarah Bokes? age 30 female servant

Then theres a lone Joseph Mole age 12 in the civil parish of Outwell reg dist Wisbech, sub reg dist Upwell, county Norfolk.

Upwell and Outwell are partly in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

The 1841 dosnt give household relations and only yes or no as to whether born in county.

Re: New Member

Heres a submission by a LDS member for the marriage of a Joseph Mole and Ann Kimmions date 1-7-1822 at St. Clement, Outwell, Norfolk.

Please note as this has been submitted by a member of the LDS, these records should be checked by the original.

Batch no 8816732
sheet 39
source call no 1553213

Re: New Member

Thank you for that information. I am reasonably sure that the Joseph Mole (aged 11) is my ancestor. The fact that another Joseph lived next door is interesting. I am now wondering whether he may be the grandfather.
I would greatly appreciate anyone's advice on the path my search should take.

Re: New Member

Hi Steve,

Had a look on the 1851 census, but nothing for Ann did find a death for a Ann Mole dist Wisbech, Cambridgeshire year 1844 Mar 1/4 vol 14 page 126, nothing for Joseph that fits, also found a death for a Joseph Mole dist Wisbech, year 1846 Dec 1/4 vol 14 page 122 and another death year 1911 born abt 1811 Dec 1/4 dist Cambridge.

Did Joseph marry, then his marriage cert assuming he married in Australia would this give his fathers name and occupation? If it does then it will confirm his fathers name (I dont know what info the Australian marriage certificates hold). Pre 1837 the parish records will be needed as registration didnt start until about mid 1837. You could try Googling to see if there are any parish registers online. Have put some links for you below.
