They must have been in England in 1851 so all I can suggest is that the census record is lost or they are not listed as DODSON because no one has managed to find them yet.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. Now I have two things that say it's not the right Mary Ann HIRST. Mine was born in Halifax not Huddersfield and not Golcar. Also, age at death is out.

So it looks by chance another Mary Ann HIRST from WRY ended up in Victoria and that takes us back here for my Mary Ann:

Marriages Mar 1852
Adams William Halifax 9a 420
Chappell Ann Elizabeth Halifax 9a 420
Hirst Mary Ann Halifax 9a 420
Uttley Abraham Halifax 9a 420

If that is my Mary Ann b. 2 May 1833 Halifax then where is she in 1851?

There is no sign of a death in Victoria for a Mary Ann UTTLEY.

Census searches for 1861 have so far failed to turn up either matched couple.

I can't give myself an infraction. I have HIRST in with the WALKERs so breaking a rule.

Sorry, it was the DODSON look up, thanks. But it appears I headed down the wrong path on finding a Mary Ann (nee HIRST) death in Victoria.

Back now to finding her in 1851 unmarried. Thanks. Then sorting out the couples. Then seeing if the couple with Mary Ann never left England.

Possible baptism for her father James:

c. 14 Dec 1800 Halifax, Yorkshire, England - father George and mother ?

I have no siblings for James so at this stage I can't say one way or the other.

I can't search in IGI for siblings without a mother for James.

Only one Rhoda in IGI with father Benjamin so not looking good to be my Mary Ann.

Lots of HIRSTs (too may William to try and find the right one) so one other possibility is that my Mary Ann died between 1841 and 1851.
