Hi
I am trying to trace Julia Ellen Kirkman nee Scholey. I have all the information about her birth, marriage and children. All I know is that she died sometime between 1921-1926. I realise that the time scale is vast but that is all the knowledge I have. She lived in Downham Road, London - Either Islington or Hackney depending on which side/end of the road you lived. She may have reverted back to her maiden name as she was widowed.
Any help/ advice would be gratefully received. It would be nice if I could put Julia Ellen to rest - so to speak.

Hi Takefive,

Have looked through the GRO index under both surnames between the years 1920-1930 she didnt show up on there!
Hi there.
Thanks for that. Apreciate your efforts. We did the same but only up to 1927 as we knew she was long gone by then.
Julia Ellen really is a mystery. We know she existed. We know who she married and the issue thereof. When she died my Grandmother and my Aunt - both long gone - went to her house to help with the clearance. She has just disappeared.
My original posting on here was a long shot in case anyone comes up with something that we have missed - I am really clutching at straws with this one.
My own assumption is that she was either interred in a communal grave and the records are lost or her family on her father's side got to hear of her demise and interred her in a family grave somewhere in one of the church yards that we still have to search - we have managed to get about a quarter of them done. Hey Ho.. lots of work then.....
Thanks again.

Hi Takefive,

When was Julia Widowed, any possibilty that she remarried, though cant find another marriage!. Was she the Julia that has her pob as Kilburn, as she is hard to trace after 1881, (know you was looking for death) just though I'll have a scout round.

Hi there.
Thanks for that. We have been down that road. So many roads in fact that we need another map to find our way back - so to speak.
We have been looking for the elusive Julia Ellen for many years now with no luck - it's just like she vanished off the face of the earth.
All we know is that she was living in Downham Road Islington/Hackney in London at the time of her death. GM and Aunt went to the residence just after she died to clear the place out. From recent conversations I have had it would appear that they were also in contact with her just before she died. As bolh of these relatives are long dead the trail goes cold. From previous conversations with this old aunt she seemed to think that it was around 1922/23 although at the time of speaking to her, her memory was failing and the dates were a bit sketchy. JE was living alone when she died. As for any other relationship we have no knowledge at all. We know she never re-married and it may be possible that she "shacked up" with someone and took his name in order to preserve some sense of propriety and as a consequence became known as Mrs.......?. If this was the case and without knowing that name we are unable to find her. It's a pity that we cannot find her as she is the last "space" on the tree - we know a lot about her except for those last few years. She is just a name on the tree and it would be nice to find her and pay our respects as we have done with all the others.
JE was born in Kilburn. We too have got to 1881 and hit that wall. We now believe she went to live with relatives called Needham and may have taken that name at a later date. There is also a wild rumour that she became Mrs Rogers at some stage. We have still to check these out. I do not hold out much hope.
Thanks again.

Would it be worthwhile looking at the electorial registers and see who was registered at that address!
and hopefully when the 1911 census comes out she may show up on there.

Hi there.
We have been down that road as well. The issue is clouded in that a letter we have from out deceased aunt says that she "thinks she lived in Downham Road". We do not have the house number. Just this suppositiom that it was Downham Road. Downham Road comes under the juridstiction of Islington and of Hackney. So it meant a search of both registers.
Maybe the 1911 census will show us some thing - blast this 100 year ruling!
Thanks again.
