can i ask please

Is the 1911 census ever going to go online free as it is a public record ?.
I miss not being able to just view a census when i want to, i have been spoilt as i have purchased the census boxes in the past, can i buy the 1911 or has it not been filmed yet.

I think it will be freely available to view next year, at the National Archives.

I doubt if it will ever be free to view online. But I think it will be available on other FH sites......but again, you'll have to pay.

No doubt, others on here know more than I.

I think Genes Reunited have the 1911 census now. I think they are owned by FMP so its probably the same. Ancestry get it later this year, but as Steve says, you have to pay subs or credits. You don't get owt for nowt these days.

Which reminds me of an old Yorkshire saying - 'Hear all, see all, say nowt. Eat all, drink all, pay nowt, and if tha ever dus owt for nowt, do it for thee-sen.

I also think, all the details of individuals in the 1911 census will be available to view.

At the moment, on FMP and G-R, the last column had been blanked out, as part of the condition of releasing it early to a private company to transcribe.

Not sure if the last column will be available to view on Ancestree, later this year.?

The 1911 has been free to view at the National Archives ever since it was put online by Findmypast.

Those who wish it to be free online could have it free online today if they dip into their pockets and purchase a copy then dip into their pockets again and transcribe and index it then dip into their pockets further to host and publish it online.

It costs money to provide free records online (I know I have do it and have done it in the past).

The bottom line is if you want it online free you provide the funds for it to be online free, don't expect others (the taxpayer) to pay.
