I bought an old postcard of Bishops House. Judging by the stamp it is about 1912, postmark is not really visible. Its adressed to either Milo Dodson or Family Dodson and says I know you will have seen this view. and signed Mother. So I looked for Dodsons who were living nearby and have come up with 2 families one living in Norton and the other in Heeley.

Where was she staying when she sent the postcard and was she related to either family. Only other clue is she says Auntie Harley is here.
The address she sent to is Murcott House Long Buckly Nr Rugby

Hi DW,

Can't find Long Buckley in Warwickshire. Could it be Long Buckby, Northants, which isn't far from Rugby. Only about 8-10 miles away.
I'm sure there is a Murcott house there, on the Rugby side of the village of Long Buckby.

There is a Murcott Mill, which does B&b today on the same road almost.

If so, I'll ask my wife, as she lived there for years.

I know that's why I bought the postcard. I belong to Friends of Bishops House. What intrigues me is that on the card it implies the view is well known so am wondering if they came from Norton Lees. Dodson is an old name in Norton Lees.

Its my first successful bid for one of the old cards. It cost 49p Not bad for a piece of history. Would love to find one of the older ones.

Yes I've seen it. I can't say I like it as the stone is the wrong colour. We know a graphics artist that has done a much better drawing but we haven't persuaded her to let us market it as a design yet. There was a drawing in the 1800s which we are using on our open day as it has the farm buildings on it and we are doing geophys to try and find exactly where they were.
