Hi there, I've just started tracing my family tree. Bit difficult as my decesed maternal grandfather so far I can't find a birth record.
His mother was Hermione Cradock, father Victor Grunhut. He was apparently illigitimate but there are some documents that my Grandmother has for me to look through, one is hermiones will naming my grandfather as her son.

He is Philip Alexander Hamilton, no ideas yet where Hamilton comes from!!

I have found Hermione, her bro & some of their ancestors. I have been told Admiral Cradock is a relation but can't work out how?

Is there a way to find what children someone had without knowing dates of birth?

I am enjoying the hunt but it is frustrating!!!

any tips appreciated!!!

any ideas of places of birth or dates? you say that he was mentioned in a will does it give his age as you can work his date of birth out from that, even if he was illigitemate his birth would still have to be registered probably with the mothers name but no father.suex pswelcome to the site and happy hunting

Thank you, yes that's him, that's the D.O.B my grandmother gave me, but as you say I couldn't find a birth record either.
Thanks for looking :D

Need to get a look at this will as I believe Hermione went on to marry and have another child. My grandmother gave me a married name Scott. Hoping these will be in will :D

The other thing I have is a newspaper article about Victor Grunhut, lawyer, and he does look like my Grandfather! I know they had contact and he met my Grandmother but my Grandfather never told her who he was until the end of his life. She remembers him coming to see my uncle when he was a boy.
It's all very wierd, he was very closed about talking about his family, everything my Grandmother knows she had to drag out of him apparently!
I am determind to find out!!!

Phyllis and Victor are both indexed on the 1911 undeer Greenhut census, district Gateshead. Young Victor isnt showing with them but there is a Stephen Greenhut born abt 1901 in an institution in Hemsworth,Yorkshire could he have been put under his middle name? His middle name is Stephenson.
