How would I find out when my grandfather William Henry Allen D O B 21 1 1914 joined the Royal Navy I know he served in wartime would be grateful for any help

Assuming it would be after 1920, the records are not available online. There are a few on the National Archives.

To obtain other you will have to apply to the Ministry of Defence.
