Death 15 Oct 1899/C03860 Cairns Thomas - David Cairns - Margaret - ** born Scotland aged 88 years

The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933) - Wednesday 18 October 1899 p.4
On Sunday morning last one of the oldest identities of Bulimiba, Cressbrook, and the Valley, Mr. Thomas Cairns, died at the residence of his youngest daughter, Mrs. W. J. F. Cooksley, Cairnville, Toorak, Breakfast Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Cairns arrived in Sydney in 1852 with two sons and four daughters, one of whom (Mrs. Coleman) has since died. They immediately came on to Brisbane. Mr. Cairns worked at Bulimba and afterwards at Cressbrook, under engageanent to the late David M'Connel, for a number of years, after which he took up a farm in the Enoggera district, where he remained for some time. During the last few years he has lived a quiet and retired life with his daughter, Mrs. Cairns having passed away some three and a-half years ago at the ripe age of 90 years and 9 months. The deceased gentleman attained the patriarchal age of 88 years and 7 months. He was buried in Nundah Cemetery, and around his grave were representatives of four generations of his descendants. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. W. Higlett, of the Albion. Many old residents of Brisibane, and suburbs were also present, including the Hon. J. McMaster, M.L.C.
