I suspect a good many of our older members and readers will remember their daily dose of Virol!
The Sheilds Daily Gazette Monday 18th March 1901 carried an advert in the form of a letter of thanks from a grateful father it reads;
On the Verge of Consumption"
Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in informing you that my little daughter, Kathleen Patricia, Jane Walsh is rapidly improving under the treatment of your valuable preparation, called Virol. Six months ago our doctor told us she was on the verge of consumption of the bowels through lack of natural resources. We tried Cod-liver oil Emulsion without success. We were advised to try Virol, which we have done with great results and shall always be very pleased to testifyto its nurishing properties. I feel it has saved my little treasue's life. You are at liberty to use this letter and my name for reference,
I am gentlemen,
Yours respectfully,
signed William J Walsh
This caught my eye as 80 years later I was a GP in the same area. How different my treatment for Consumption (TB) would have been
I would love to reunite the advert with any decendants of William Walsh and his little treasure Kathleen
