Thanks Julie. :)

No wonder I was having a hard time finding Keith in NSW records.

Someone gave me his death date as 3 Apr 1968. Wonder why that date?

Sorry Geoff.

I've mentioned this before. The year in the index is the year of birth even though the V record is a church baptism. The place of birth is not recoreded unless the religion is Baptist and then it is a birth registration V record and not a baptism. The actual date of baptism could be the same year or as many as 5 years later. I don't think I have any NSW baptisms in my tree where the children were aged over 5.

So if they arrived in 1845 and the year of birth is 1844 then I would expect when I view the record to find a date of birth in 1844 and a date of baptism in 1845 or even later.

Interesting why that index should say birth (not bap.) recorded in 1844..

SPARK Mr, Mrs, 2Ch Comet P 17 May 1845 New Zealand 1272 Pt Nicholson [Departure from Nelson in SMH]

P=Passenger

Don't know why they created the index using the year of birth rather than the year on the top of the page which is the year of baptism.

Typical example:

Reg# V18543107 56/1854 FURNER CHARLES J - GEORGE J - VICTORIA

Wesleyan Baptisms in the Camden Circuit in the County of Camden 1855
Charles James - George James & Victoria Furner Abode: Camden Quality or Profession: Sawyer When Born: 10th Novr. 1854 When Baptised: 19th May 1855 By whom the Ceremony was performed: J. Fillingham

I think one puzzle unsolved is the death in Grafton.

5687/1879 SPARK ALEXANDER - JAMES UNKNOWN GRAFTON

The one who died in Grafton was born here:

Dunkeld, Perthshire abt 1806.

I can't find a baptism or a marriage in FS. The 4 trees are of no help.

Sir Charles Forbes 22 August 1842
Spark James 28 tinplate & zinc worker
Spark Margaret Jane child
Spark Jane 29 wife
Spark Alexander 35

A younger brother named after his father James?

Does that mean they should be in 1841 census? I can't find Alexander in Scotland.

No SPARKs born 1809 +/- 10 in Perthshire in 1841.

The image says he is on his own... May be he was an ex porter, being 86y

Thanks Geoff.

That's more likely I'd say. Still looking for something more on the Grafton one though.

Assuming the Grafton one is not it then the bit about Perthshire is also out. And we can't use that age at death. So we have 35 in 1842 and a probable brother James 28 a tinplate and zinc worker and father = James.

Looking in NSW there is an Alexander Brodie senior and junior:

V18412097 25A/1841 SPARK ALEXANDER B - ALEXANDER B - FRANCES M
V18422289 26A/1842 SPARK FRANCES M A - ALEXANDER B - FRANCES M

4182/1878 SPARK ALASTER BURNET - ALEXANDER BRODIE - SARAH ANN - CONCORD
4680/1880 SPARK ISABEL MCPHERSON - ALEXANDER BRODIE - SARAH ANNE - CONCORD

however they are in Sydney.

That Grafton death is the only SPARK death in that district 1840-1982.

One nearby:

10990/1886 SPARK MARGARET H - HENRY - KATE - KEMPSEY

No births in NSW with mother = Margaret and father = -
