Kinship report on Family Tree Maker

Wonder if anyone can help. I use Family tree maker - the basic version - and having just done a kinshipd report find that my mother is also supposed to be my 'Half seventh cousin once removed'!! I'd never heard of half cousins before....
Nevertheless, I presumed I had either made a mistake on my tree or that my father's family were related way back to my mother's. But my father is only down as my father and the husband of my 'Half seventh cousin once removed'.
I scrolled down to my own name and yes, it said self AND 'Half eighth cousin'!?!
Surely this cannot be right?
Does anyone have any ideas as to whether this could be correct or what I can do to discover what mistakes I have made?

I have used Family Tree Maker but never come accross this before.
Sounds very complicated. My gut feeling is that you must have gone wrong somewhere. Sorry I can't be more help.

I also use FTM and quite often use the kinship facility, A while ago now I had a problem and found it was because I had swapped the sexes of a couple in the tree.
The computer defaults to female when entering someone. if you miss entering a *** correctly and then enter the spouse they get switched round.

I do not know if this is the cause of your problem but it is one of the simpler things to check first. iI suggest you go back up both parallel lines to ensure every one is the right *** !

Remember you tell the *** of a chromosome by taking off its genes!!

Just to clarify half cousins


half cousins are the relationship of the children of half brother and sisters



so MARY = JOHN = ANN

FRED = Liz JOAN = Bill

| |
MIKE = Gill TONY= Maggie

| |
JACK WENDY

In this example Fred and Joan are half brother and sister half siblings

so Mike and Tony are half cousins and Jack and Wendy are half second cousins

Mike and Wendy and Jack and Tony are half cousins once removed
