Hello cp,

Thank you very much.

Sister Jeanie aged rapidly. :D

So where is Robert B. junior in 1851?

Actually it's John I'm chasing so try for 1871 please. Probably not there.

...Coming out to Melbourne as a young man, he entered into business as an iron merchant,...
...an annuity of £250 to his brother, Robert Birkmyre Kirkland, during his life,...
Regards,

Dave

I can't see John in shipping records so I guess that's one more for the Shipping board. :)

He was living in Victoria then moved to NSW in about 1887 and died there in 1927.

Hello cp,

Thanks. :)

:2fun: Do I do better without that board? Do I move it there ?

I did look in the assisted and unassisted to Victoria. I don't know how I missed this earlier today:

Can anyone help with my John Kirkland from Lanarkshire?
John Kirkland – who was born in Govan Lanark to John and Marion (SPARK) Kirkland in 1861.

He married in 1884 to a Mary Campbell in her home area of Greenock Renfrewshire and had one son John Spark Kirkland in Govan in 1888.

John was found on the 1891 census with his 2 year old son living with his parents John and Marion in Govan, Lanark. Mary Kirkland was a domestic servant at her employers in Lanark as well.

After 1891 the trail goes blank. They can not be located on the 1901 census. I can not find a death for either John or Mary Kirkland.

In 1901 their son John Spark Kirkland is still living with his grandparents at their house in Govan. In 1906 when they both die he is the informant.

What happened to his parents? In 1913 when John Spark Kirkland married he said his parents were both dead.

Anyone who might be able to help solve this mystery?

Thanks Dave. I hope someone might be able to help.

Thanks for the info below.
Yes John Kirkland married Elizabeth SPARK
Not sure about one of 7 children - what showed one of 7?

They had -
Elizabeth Spark (1834 Berwickshire Scotland -1906 Govan Scotland )
Married 1859 Edinburgh
John Kirkland [1824 Scotland -1906 Govan Scotland ]
Children-
1. Marion Kirkland (1859 – 1939) m. Robert Buchan
2. John Kirkland (1861 - m. Mary Campbell
3. Robert Kirkland (1864 – 1875)
4. Janet Kirkland (1866 - 1916 )
5. Margaret Kirkland (1868 - 1871 )

They had five children that I know of and only two married with two dying in childhood.

It is their son John Kirkland who I am trying to locate - along with his wife Mary Campbell.

They had one son John Spark Kirkland in 1888 after having married in Greenock, Renfrewshire in 1884.

They can not be found after 1891. Their son John Spark Kirkland lived with his grandparents in 1901 census - parents couldnt be located.
He stated in 1913 that his parents were both deceased. Can not find a death for a John or Mary Kirkland pre 1913 and after 1891.

Maybe they moved to England - but why would they leave their son with grandparents?

Cheers

Peter Spark
