Hi last hope William Crocket umbrella maker in the 1841 census, I've tried every combination I can think of to no avail.
Found in 51,61,71,81 and wife in 1891.
I assume they were missing or something, not sure if finding them will help but its bugging me!!
Any ideas welcome.

Re: Last chance 1841

Hi

Could we have some clues please?:D
Area, date of birth, parents names etc . I presume you must have some ideas from the other census that you have seen. It would help as I have found 75 approx x William Crockett

Many thanks

Re: Last chance 1841

Hi nainmaddie,
Oops,
William Crockett abt 1807
1851 - Bishopsgate - living 7 Norfolk Gardens, Shoreditch
1861 - City - living 7 Norfolk Gardens, Shoreditch
1871 - City - living 7 Norfolk Gardens, Shoreditch
1881 - Edmonton - 8, West Street, Bethnall green
All 4 state he was an Umbrella Maker, not sure about the 1881 edmonton seems like a slip.

Re: Last chance 1841

Hi

I have not been able to find said gentleman or family in 1841. I should say that I did not stipulate umberella maker, just in case he changed his job. Sadly nothing came up on my site with anything that matched

Re: Last chance 1841

They were not living at 7 Norfolk Gardens in 1841. At 6 Norfolk Gardens there was a William with an unreadable surname who had sons William & Robert, amongst others. However he was a joiner, his wife was not Mary Ann but probably Susanna and son William was 10 although Robert was 1. So I do not think that this could be them.
There was an Umbrella Maker in Norfolk Gardens but definitely not Crocket. I have also been through all of that enumerators section to see if they were close by, without success.

Re: Last chance 1841

I thank you all for trying, I was hoping someone ahd a magic bullet that they could use but no.
I have exhausted all the tricks I have picked up but to no avail.
Doing a search on a job in the 1841 census dont seem to work for me mind you some of the most obvious ones dont either.
Had an instance yesterday searching a county for all 'Murray' and if you tick the include variants you get all kinds of weird things but if you dont any murray with extra bits on the surname are not shown as in 'murray jnr'
You just gotta love databases and as I made my living from writing them I know only to well the headaches even the seemingly simple are difficult in a database environment.

Have you tried other family trees, sometimes you can get some very good clues from them, if you do just make sure you confirm those clues, some trees are way out of the ball park and have no idea.

Re: Last chance 1841

I have looked at some trees but their using later census records to prove the facts, wrong way round to my eyes!
In fact I.m not even sure what information I could glean from the 1841 census its just the crocketts and the batemans(his wife) seem to be a mystery as to origins etc.

Re: Last chance 1841

I think the Crockett's have been found in 1841.
I put a request onto Rootschat http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=478723.new;topicseen#new
and the pages found are most convincing, plus the fact that 2 Batemans are found at the same address and childrens ages are right.
It doesnt give no other info but just enforces the fact that I have to go to parish records from now on and they give so little info .
