MR. JAMES LAWLESS, ÆTAT 74, Died at his residence, Lawlesston, Rosemonte, near Goulburn, about 4.30 p.m. yesterday. Deceased had been in failing health for the past two years and during the last month he became worse. He was attended by Dr. Morton of Goulburn, and previously by Dr. Fairfax-Ross of Sydney. Death was due to general break-up of the system. Deceased was a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to the state over fifty years ago. He was attached to the police service in this state for over thirty years, and was one of those who were sent to Young at the time of the Lambing Flat riot. Mr. Lawless served through the Indian mutiny and gained medals for distinguished service. About six years ago he retired on a pension. He has resided in the Goulburn district ever since he came to the state with the exception of a few months at Mudgee. He was highly respected, and made many friends. He leaves a wife and four sons and five daughters. Three of the sons are William, post and telegraph master at Wickham; Arthur, public school teacher at Delegate; and Edward, who lived at home. The daughters are Mrs. Murray of Cowra, Mrs. Swan of Sydney, Ada, public school teacher at Gurrunda, and Agnes and Annie Lawless, who live at home. The funeral will take place to-morrow at 10.30.

The death took place on Thursday last, at her residence., 'Rosemont,' Goulimrn, of Mrs. Honorah Lawless, an old and respected resident of the district. The deceased lady was 80 years o.f age, and had been ill for some three, or four months. Mrs. Lawless loaves -i family of four sons and five daugh ters. They are Messrs. William (postmaster at wicimam), Martin (contractor, at Harden), Edward (Railway Department. Eveleigh), and Arthur (Mittagong). Mrs. Swann (Rosemont), Miss Ada ' Lawless (Cook's Hill, Newcastle), Mrs. Murray (South Coast), Mrs. George Jones (Goul burn), and Miss Annie Lawless (Rosemont). Her husband predeceased her by about 13 years. The interment took place in the Catholic cemetery at Kenmore. — R.I.P.
