Hi Pur,

Drumsna is village a couple of miles away from Carrick-on-Shannon and both are in Co.Leitrim.
There is also a 'townland'(district) Drumsna in Carrick-on-Shannon.

If you go to 'google maps' and put in Drumsna, you will see them. Also Drum Sna Laburn could have mistranscribed for Drumsna Leitrim.
I live about 20 minutes from there.

Hey Pur,
If you can give us the census entry, perhaps we can unravel it.

Hi Steve

Sorry about the late response and thanks for the info on these places. I'll have a look at the maps you suggested.

I got the information from Ancestry. It's a typed version of the 1891 census of England.

Hope you understand this because I don't:

The source at the end says: Class: RG12; Piece: 3327: Folio 31: GSU roll: 609

Any help would be much appreciated.

Names/dates/places, please Pururea.

I don't know how to search with the source details.

Hi Steve

I found both Drumsna sites but Google doesn't seem to recognise Drumina. I found a property site with Drumina, Virginia and Google doesn't recognise Virginia either. I did, however, find Virginia on Google's map!!!! But still haven't spotten Drumina...

I'm presuming the village is too small to put on the map. Is it actually in Virginia? Or am I on the wrong track???

Hi Tamasin,

Is it possible that Drumsna and Drumina are the same place, but mistranscribed, or written as 'heard'. Also your rellie may have given the name in Irish gaelic.

I'll ask my neighbours if they've heard of of Drumina.

Have you a name, as that would give a clue also.

There is also Drumod, Drumlion, Drumcard, Drumlea, Drumcong, Drumlea and Drumshanbo.
Irish for Carrick on Shannon is Cora Droma Ruisc.
I'm not trying to confuse you, but Drum......??:) :)

Hi Steve

I am so pleased to hear that you cannot get the Census details using the Ho/0000/Folio number. I have tried, and asked on here but answer came there none!! I thought it was just silly old me!!! :2fun:

Also on G.......t you do not get the brides name , you have to find the number for both bride and groom. Irritating when you only know the one. More recent entries have the brides surname.

I presume from your reply that you have found all ten of Jacob Moore marriages, and only one Rebecca

Thanks for that Steve...

Thanks for asking your neighbours... The name of the family that are supposed to be from Drumsna are Buckley - John (father who according to his daughter's marriage cert was a gardener {that's what it looks like anyway}. The daughter's name is Mary Ann.

I have another Leitrim relative with a very popular name (although no town mentioned which doesn't help I know) Mary whose father was William John Gallagher - a farmer - according to her marriage cert???

Hi Tasmin,
My neighbour has never heard of Drumina, but it does not mean it does not exist. He has lived around these parts for 30 years, and has never come across it.
Family names tend to 'hold' in certain areas, sort of 'clan like'.
I used to work with 2 'Gallaghers' from Drumshanbo, Co.Leitrim.

You could try and put an enquiry into the local newspaper, here is the link for it. It has been successful in the past for a lot of people.

Drumina?

Hi Steve

Thanks once again for asking your neighbours and for the newspaper link... I might go down that route.

I've tried IFHS but there were - according to them - no Buckleys born in Leitrim and there are numerous Mary Gallaghers. So the newspaper might just work...

Cheers...
