I'm new to the forum, but have come across your postings on the Curtis/Horwood tree. I am currently working on the Horwood tree as I have recently discovered that Amy Horwood, Susan's sister, is my great grandmother (my father was adopted at birth). This is what I have found so far:

Joseph Newell Horwood was married to Eliza Reed, but like you I have been unable to find a marriage. Joseph was born in Bierton (near Aylesbury), whilst Eliza was born in Hadham (near Bishops Stortford). I can't figure out how they met as there is no logical connections between the 2 places. In 1861 they were living in Bierton but by 1866 they had moved to Bromley, Middx. In Bierton, he was a labourer and sawyer, but he became a railway porter in London (a common occupation in the family).

Their children were:
Sarah, b. 1848, Bishops Stortford; m. William Honour 1868, Poplar
William, b. 1855, Bierton; m. Charlotte Cusick 1886, West Ham
Robert, b. 1858, Bierton; m. Eliza Scarlett 1885, Bromley St. Leonard
Susan Ursula, b. 1859, Bierton; m. Charles Curtis, 26 Dec 1880, Bromley St. Michaels
Amy, b. 30 Dec 1861, Bierton; m. George Thomas Carroll 1 May 1888; d. 9 May 1942, Edgware.
Annie, b. 10 Sep 1866, Bromley, Poplar

I am fairly convinced that Sarah was not Joseph's, but I don't know if Eliza was the widow of a Mr Reed or Sarah was illegitimate (Eliza would have been 18).

Hope this helps.
