Still can't find the marriage. Do we have 2x Amelia? And the marriage is much later than 1923?

Seems they are only living at same address from 1936:

1936 QLD Electoral Roll - Maranoa - Miles
NEWBERY Leslie Arthur, Alberton, Dulacca, grazier
NEWBERY Amelia, Alberton, Dulacca, home duties

Marriage doesn't appear to be on the index, a tree has him married in 1923 to Amelia (Milly) Clark, not validated..

Edit: In Victoria! Hardly likely...

One more thing to check - Leslie's discharge should list what Military District 1 or 2 or 3... so I can find out if it was Victoria or not.

Enlisted Miles, Qld. 9 May 1916 - S/N 2134 42nd Bn - NOK mother Newbery Mary living at 'Clovelly' Kowguran via Miles, Qld. - Embarked Brisbane, Qld. HMAT A46 'Clan McGillivray' 7 Sep 1916 - Served in France - Wounded 1917 - Returned to Australia 20 Feb 1919 - Discharged 9 Apr 1919

1st MD. That theory goes out the window.

MD (Military District)
Australia was divided into six Military Districts:

MD1 - Queensland
MD2 - New South Wales
MD3 - Victoria
MD4 - South Australia
MD5 - Western Australia
MD6 - Tasmania

Trivia time

Amelia didn't appear until the 1925 E/R, Leslie was last noted in 1919, that has to be the time frame for a union, benign or otherwise.

In 1919 and 1925 in the E/R Mary's address was 14-mile Creek, when she wrote to Victoria Barracks in Melbourne, re Eric in 1920, she uses 'Clovelly' Kowguran as her address. Maybe the addresses didn't mean much until later on.
