:)Hi Izabel,

Don't know about Charlies Angels. Don't think I have the figure for it :2fun: Glad you enjoyed the hot pot. I like easy recipes as well. I'll put some more on for you to try later.
Family tree stuff a bit slow at the moment. So have been going through M.I.L. records. Will be glad when I upgrade this computer so I can scan some of her photos & documents & preserve them on disc. Will be better than photo copying them.

Well better go for now,
Catch you later

:-* Hi Everyone,

Haven't we been quiet lately. I have been having trouble with my broad band connection. Keeps on bumping me out of the internet. Very frustrating when I need to do something & find I have been kicked off before I get to complete it. So I have only been on here for short bursts. Hopefully have worked it out now. It might have been our cordless phone even though we have a filter connected.
Have another recipe for you all to try.

Tuna Mornay.

3 tblspn butter or marg
3 tblspn plain flour
3 cups milk
3 hard boiled eggs, sliced
1 cup grated tasty cheese
1 onion, chopped
1/4 cup each frozen peas & corn
425g can tuna, drained
Bread crumbs.

Melt butter in medium saucepan
Remove from heat & add flour. Mix well.
Slowly add milk a little at a time to avoid lumps.
Return pan to heat and stir till it begins to thicken.
Add cheese & stir till melted.
Add onion, peas & corn.
Flake tuna into pan & mix well.
Fold in eggs gently.
Pour into a casserole dish, sprinkle with bread crumbs & heat in oven at 200c for 20 mins.
Serve with crusty rolls & side salad.

For chicken mornay substitute equal amount of cooked shredded chicken for the tuna.
For a low fat version use skim milk & low fat cheese & tuna in spring water.

Enjoy.

catch you all later

Hi Peta ;D

Sounds delicious - the only problem is that I'm not too keen on tuna. Could I use cod? Mind you, with the butter and cheese, I don't think that it will do my diet much good. I weighed myself at the doctors the other day and I've put on another half a stone over Christmas. So, all the goodies have gone. Can't be looking like a whale on the beach this year when I take my little boy on holiday, can I??

Hi Dave ;D

I know how you feel. Fortunately, I don't smoke but that does mean that I can't give that up. Instead the alcohol consumption has had to be cut down. DRASTICALLY!! But with no chocolate or crisps or alcohol - Dawn is going to be a very tetchy bunny indeed in a few days. Expect my presence on this forum to increase dramatically.

:) Hi Dawn & Dave,

Have never used cod. Tried Salmon once, that went down like a lead balloon. Chicken works well. I use all low fat alternatives in it to keep the fat content down. My Doc, has me on the diet roundabout as well :'(
I don't smoke, but used to. Hubby told me I was a bitch for 2 weeks. Strange I don't remember it that way. He was just annoying. ::)
My vice is nibbles. I like a wine as well usually something sweet & white. Puts my blood pressure up though so I have to watch it.

I have come to the opinion that if I loose weight, great. If I don't or only loose a little, thats good too. As long as I don't put on. I'm not going to obsess about it to much as that only makes it so much harder.
Does that sound bad? or just naughty?

Take care all.

Hi Peta ;D

Nope, that sounds pretty balanced to me! My vices are the nibbly things as well. Especially whilst watching TV. My problem is that I don't necessarily know when to stop. I can't seem to think 'I'll only have two biscuits'. I'll think 'Just one more, just one more' and before I know it, the whole packet is gone! So, I just have to go 'cold turkey' (or cold chocolate - as the case may be :2fun:) I've upped my fluid intake to the recommended 2 litres per day ( unfortunately, that two litres can't be alcohol!!) and I now buy low fat snacks. We'll see how things go. Wish me luck and keep watching for regular updates. Maybe I should start a new thread a la Bridget Jones but mine would be about my battle with the bulge instead of my man probs. That would just be too much for you delicate readers!!

Thank god there are others out there with vices. Thought it was just me - wine, nicotine and chocolate in any combination. Tried to give up smoking once after I watched a medical progamme on the effects of nicotine on the lungs. Lasted about 5 days and Brent bought a packet of cigs. Dave you and I are kindred spirits!! Peta your recipes are sooooo yummy and easy to make. keep them coming. Hows the charlies angels thing going.

;DHi Izabel & Dawn,

The Charlies Angels thing isn't going to bad. I think we're the comic relief section though. :2fun: Talk about getting everything all mixed up. At times I have no idea where my arms are supposed to be. It's a real job not to collapse in a fit of giggles all the time. Don't know if a pair of giggling gerties is quite the atmostphere the dojo wants. Good thing they are fairly patient .

Got to go to the doc tomorrow for my weigh in Yuk. Lost 1kg last week hope I do all right this week as well. :) I'm part of a parent group who all have disabled children. We are starting a support network for losing weight (we all need to lose in some shape or form). They are planning to get nutrition speakers in etc. Never know might learn something.

Everyone here back at school & work now. Yeah , my times almost my own.

Hi everybody ;D

As predicted, the diet has gone t**s up already. I was brought some chocs for Valentines Day, I can't live without alcohol (my other half has noticed an increase in tetchy levels) and I have come to the conclusion that I am a connessiour of fine food because the more fat and sugar the food contains, the more I like it. Unfortunately, I think that my arteries will not agree with me in the future. Never mind, I can always start the diet again tomorrow.....or maybe at the weekend.......or maybe on Monday.

;D Hi every one,

Lucky you Dawn, chocys yum. :p Mine got me a pamper basket. He was being mindful of my diet he said. Very sweet. Lost 1 kg last week doc very happy. Week before only lost .1 of a kg. I got the look through the eyebrows, but I didn't gain so I figure I'm a winner all round. >:D

Have been spending a lot of time on Ancestry this week. Have been looking through their English & Wales 1837 - 1983 Beta listings. Have managed to find the birth, Marriage & death listings for my dads parents & all the births of my mothers siblings. Because I can view the actual register it gives me the folio & page numbers so I can get certificates. I even found me. ;D It's the most productive I've been in ages. It's not letting me into the marriage section now & I can't work out why. I can still get into the death & birth registers

Well better go. Take care all.

Hi everyone - sounds like you had good a valentines day. I was in Cedarville for a week - no chocs for me - just hard work. However I did get a small bootle of bubbly from my hubby. We sound like some fraternity - chocalholics. Im very partial to vodka with a touch of lime. Still I think anyone who takes on tracing their family history has a great need for the odd tipple and vast cane fields of sugar. Have a good weekend. Izabel

Hi everyone. :) Haven't we been quiet in here. So what is everyone up to? :confused:I'm still doing the karate thing. I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing, but there were 5 new students last night so I didn't feel quite so inept. ;D My idiot metre went down a tad :2fun:
Got another recipe for you to try. This was given to me by a nutritionalist as an idea for a quick snack.

Vagabond Muffins.

1/2 cup unsalted raw sunflower seedsÂ
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 cup raisins
FOR SIMPLICITY YOU CAN REPLACE THE ABOVE WITH 1 1/2 CUPS UNTOASTED MUESLIÂ
1 cup wholemeal flour
1 cup unbleached plain flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon ground cinammon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups grated apple (2 medium apples - don't peel)
Juice of 1 lemon
1 cup low fat milk
1 large egg
1/4 cup oil

Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly spray 12 muffin tins with non-stick cooking spray.
Drench grated apple with lemon juice to prevent browning.
Combine the flours, baking powder, baking soda, cinammon & nutmeg in a large bowl: stir till well blended. Add the brown sugar & stir to blend. Stir in the muesli.
In a separate bowl whisk together the apple, lemon juice, milk, oil & egg.
Add to the dry ingredients all at once & fold just until evenly moistened.
Do not over mixDivide batter evenly among the muffin cups. Sprinkle each muffin with sunflower seeds, if desired. Bake until the tops are lightly browned & a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Cool on a wire rack before removing from the pans.

Suitable to freeze.

Enjoy

hello Peta wondered where you got to. This sounds like a really nice recipe. Shall despatch hubby off to the shohps with a list later today. Love your recipes - so easy to do. Impossible pie is still a firm favorite with the family. Was at Cedarville on the Swine Fever epidmic for a week - so nice to get out of the office for a change. Did some scratching around in the museum while I was there. Went with a purpose but as usual got distracted and ended up finding evrything except what I wanted - still an excuse to go back. Glad to see your sticking with your karate. must be a good stress release - hey maybe I should take up kick boxing. chat to you soon. Iz

Hi Izabel, :)

You mentioned going to Cedarville on the Swine Fever Epidemic. I haven't heard of that. What is it? I don't think you have ever mentioned what your job is. Nice that you got to get to the museum. I know what it is like to get distracted when you want to search for specific things. I wont do any major searches while the family are with me, as I stop to look for something & they take of on me. Better to go back alone in peace & quiet.
Kick boxing might be good. If you are anything like me it will all be good for a laugh if nothing else.

Catch you later.

Hi all
Thought I would join in on this. I have only recently joined this site and already I am the moderator for the Wills section. I retired last year and I love every minute of being at home, which is in Birmingham (England). I got into genealogy after finding out when my mother died in 1987 that my parents were married to other partners when I was conceived, a couple of hasty divorces and they married 3 months after I was born. Heaven knows why she never told me, she knew I was not a prude. Still, it is easy to talk when you are not in that persons shoes. I would love to find some of my father's family, the hunt goes on. With a maiden name of Jelly you would think that it would be easy but there are hundreds of them scattered around.
Happy hunting to all of you
Ann - and her cat Sparkle

My name is Laura Talbot and I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was excited to see that people all over the world are hitting brick walls like I am. I am 35 years old, have 2 children and work full time. I love the outdoors and sports, but don't get the time to participate like I used to. Now I just run my children to all of their sporting activities.

I had a dream a couple of years ago that I was searching for a lost family member. That is what started me on the search. I have found many interesting things and would love to find more. Sadly, this seems to be mostly on my mothers side of the family. My father's father was from Hungary, which parts of it now are in Romania, Slovakia, and Austria. Talk about a brick wall.

I have many ancestors from England and Wales and would love to find a connection somewhere to someone else.

:)Hi Laura & Ann. Welcome,

We all know what brick walls are like. :'( Your stories are interesting. I love a bit of mystery as there isn't much in mine, that I know of yet. I have had contact with a member from another geneaology site ( Genesreunited) who was distantly related to my grandmothers sister. Then through the same site I found another member who had a connection to her brother. You would have thought all my xmas's had come at once. ;DI have never found a link before & while I haven't confirmed what they told me yet,the buzz was great. :2fun:
Good luck with your searching.
Chat again soon.

Cheers

Big welcome to Ann and Laura. Thanks for chatting with us. Peta, Swine Fever is a type of pig flu - highly contagious and the only way to control it is erradication of all pigs in the area. So far it is only in the Cape but should it spread through SA it could disastrous for the pork industry. Im in the SA Army and our responsibility at the moment is to man roadblocks and stop any movement of pork or pork products out of the Cape province. Chat to you all soon. Iz
