Hi guys well arent I just having the best week - have to share the family gossip. Thanks to Clanger and his wonderful info re the family census records and a trip to the archives here I have found a branch of the family I didnt even know existed in SA. We dont have skeletons we have the entire graveyard.

Gran was married twice - first hubby died and she left her 2 small kids here in SA - who were adopted by other family members and went to be a nanny for grandpa and his 6 kids.

Somewhere along the line they had 5 kids but neglected a small deail - marriage.

If nothing else all the hubbys sister now want to help with research and the aunties are reeling and grabbing smelling salts at the thought they may be illigetimate.

We managed to contact the eldest of the first 2 kids - still very alive and living 90kms from me who was only to happy to share the details. Will be meeting him soon.

Who says researching your dead relatives isnt fun. Round of applause for Clanger ;D ;D ;D ;D

Chat soon - off to the graveyard

Iz

P.S. Hey Dawn thought it was just me who was on line at the wee hours

Hi Iz!! ;D

Yeah, I know. But at least 7 in the morning is a semi decent time. I'd been awake since 9 the previous morning!! Never mind - hopefully I will sleep like the proverbial baby tonight!! So happy to hear that you have uncovered a virtual graveyard full of ancestors. I know what it's like to uncover new info and find living relatives that you knew nothing about - well... I'm sure we all do!! It just gives you such a buzz. Unfortunately, I am having no such luck at the moment. I have decided to pursue my mother's side of the family (up to now, I have concentrated on Dad's side and am back to the late 1600's/early 1700's). But I am constantly banging my head on one of those good ol' brick walls. Most of my ggrandparents were born around the turn of the century (1898 - 1903ish) and there seems to be a great big black hole in the parish records for the areas concerned at that time. I do have some paperwork (death certs and some newspaper articles) but, at the moment, I can't make the link back to the previous generation. Will continue to search tomorrow.

Let us all know how you get on.

Watch this space for updates on head injuries!!! (Cos I'm banging my head against a brick wall!!)

PS Clue for the brownie point - one of it's stars has recently appeared in Corrie!

Hi all, ;D

Way to go Iz, What a wonderful bit of luck finding all those rellies. Bet you got a real buzz from it all. :2fun:
Dawn youv'e lost me on the brownie point. I have no idea at the moment & Corrie isn't a program I have seen over here. Got any more hints?

Have just got back from Melbourne. Was over there for a basketball carnival. Hubby coaches a team of under 18 boys.Team didn't win :'( but good experience for them.
Managed to catch up with sister & hubby, Niece, hubby & new great nephew. He is so cute. 6mths. Sisters nose is slightly out of joint. He has taken to crying when he sees her lately & was having adverse reactions to sudden loud noise. We came around and he was all smiles & laughs. We took him to a game which is quite a noisy place with all the yelling, buzzers & whistles. He was all eyes & wonderment & as happy as a clam. Told sis that we had cured his stranger adversion & noise reactions. I thought was funny, she growled. Hee!! Hee!!! :2fun: :2fun: :2fun:

Well better go. Have heaps to catch on, cause I have been tardy getting on here.

Take care all.

Watch those bruises from the brick walls Dawn ;D ;D ;D

Hi Pee Wee

Keep forgetting that some of you guys live on different continents and don't necessarily get the same Tv as us! Do you get Robot Wars in Oz? One of the main characters of the 'smoke me a kipper' program is the host of Robot Wars but he's not responsible for the line!! Or Scrapyard Wars - another program that I don't know if you get over there. One of the presenters of Scrapyard Wars was also in the program with the 'kipper' line. Again, he wasn't responsible for the line but he did have an interesting shaped head!! :2fun: Another clue - the program was set in Space. No more clues for today - I've been too generous!!!

Hi Dawn,

MMM!! Robot Wars sounds familiar. Think it was on the ABC recently but at a time I couldn't watch. Scrapyard Wars doesn't ring a bell at all. Could the program be Red Dwarf? That was a program Hubby watched for a while. Have a vague recollection it was set in space, but I could be wrong.

Cheers for now

Hi Peta ;D

You're halfway there!! The programme is indeed Red Dwarf. All you need now is the character!! He is Arnold's slightly more courageous (and egotistical!!) alter-ego. Ask hubby!!

Will do.
Can't believe I actually guessed the program. I'm usually hopeless at things like this. ;D

Feeling very chuffed with myself today. 8) Kimberley & I qualified for our first coloured belt at Karate on the weekend. We are now yellow belts. Looks like I will have to get the white pyjamas now. The belts look weird with ordinary clothes. ::)

Take care all.

Well done!!

So glad that you're on a different continent 'cos I wouldn't want to meet you on a dark night. I'm a complete wussbag - I'd just stand there and pee my pants if anyone started getting nasty!! :2fun:

Don't think you'd have much to worry about. I'm a wuss as well. ;D
Haven't got to the stage of putting into practice the exercises we learn. Kim wants to get into sparing but that doesn't turn me on at all. :p

Think I've got the brownie point. Hubby was no help, (prob slept through the program anyway) I ended up looking on the net.

Show was Red Dwarf.
Character is Ace Rimmer 8) 8) :2fun:

Please do. ;D helps to keep the old brain cells active. I need all the help I can get. :2fun:
In the meantime since Michael hasn't been back here is my recipe for Anzac Biscuits. They're very addictive. :-*

ANZAC BISCUITS

1 cup plain flour
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup desiccated coconut
125g unsalted butter
1/4 cup golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
1 tablespoon boiling water

PREHEAT OVEN to moderate 180c. Liine a biscuit tray with baking paper.
Sift flour into a large mixing bowl, Add sugar, oats & coconut mix together & make a well in the centre.
Combine butter & golden syrup in a small pan. Stir over a low heat until butter has melted & mixture is smooth; remove from heat.
Dissolve soda in water; add immediately to butter mixture.(it will foam up instantly)
Add butter mixture to dry ingredients. Using a wooden spoon stir till well combined.
Drop one level tablespoon of mixture at a time onto prepared tray
Flatten gently with fingers, allowing room for spreading.
Bake 20 mins or until just browned.
Remove from oven; transfer to wire rack to cool.

Makes approx 26

Variation: Use treacle or honey in place of the golden syrup
Hint: Instant or 1-minute oats are quite suitable for this recipe
Storage time: Store biscuits in an airtight container for up to 3 days

Interesting site Iz. She has some lovely things & not too badly priced. I loved the orchid perfume bottle she had up for auction. :)
I have an site for you all who are watching the calories. ::)

www.symplytoogood.com.au

These cook books are of ordinary recipes that have been adapted to lower the fat & sugar content. They are available through newsagents all over Australia but can be bought online. What I like about the site is you can try some recipes before you get a book. I have the first two and so far haven't found a recipe we haven't liked. Though I now have things in my pantry I never thought of buying a lot of before. :2fun:
See what you think.

Hello everyone!! How is everybody?

Brownie point number 3 (It stands at one all to admin and PeeWee)

Name the three people who contributed to Darth Vader in the Star Wars films IV - VI. That is.... who provided the voice of Darth Vader, who was in the Darth Vader suit and who provided the "face" of Darth Vader (when unmasked by Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi). Two of the answers are reasonably simple, the other is a bit more obscure!!

Like to think that I'm contributing to your mental well-being and giving your brain a good workout!!
