Hi Iz,

Had a great day for birthday thank you. :)

You really have quite the epidemic on your hands don't you.
I was reading Michaels input on bleachers as well. Does make you look at leather in a new way. ;D

Talk again soon.

Hi everyone ;D

Welcome back Iz - wondered where you were!! Glad to hear that you're well if a little tired. Just logged in to say that I'm moving over this weekend so will be offline for a while!!

See you soon (gives me plenty of time to think of the next brownie point!!)

Hi Dawn - sorry you've been neglected. I dont know what happens to the days. All well on this side. We've been on Swine Fever for a year now - have developed an intense dislike for pork. Seems to be a constant rotation of the disease. Still I shouldnt complain - I dont have to man a roadblock day in and day out and the disease is still contained. Jade turns 21 next month so Ive been trying to get her bash organised - think Im going to be in therapy for a long time after this one. Venues, themes, colours have changed so often I dont actually know what we are in for. Have had a house full of kids all brainstorming - very scary sight and very little production and Im told I need to find a Bar Chef - what the hell does he do. Did we do this to our parents when we turned 21???? Whats happened to Peta - shes also gone very quiet. Anyway off to work. Iz

Hi Dawn, Hi Iz, ;D

Was wondering where everyone was. Everything fine here too. Don't envy you the 21yr old bash Iz. Managed to dodge that bullet when my son turned 21. He wasn't really interested in a big party so we made him get dressed up & treated him & his current girlfriend to a dinner in a nice restaurant. Very ecconomical really. He partied in his own way with his friends later. How did your move go Dawn? We've just finished school holidays here. Kimberley managed to score herself a part-time job at a department store. She is quite pleased with herself. Not bad for a 15yr old. :)

I have been flitting in & out of here for weeks just seeing if anything is happening. My research has slowed down so I haven't been doing much of that.

& I have to go again now as I have someone hovering over my shoulder waiting to get on the computer herself. Kids

Bye for now

Don't envy you with the 21yr old bash. God mine seems ages ago. In fact I don't think I remember much about it then, never mind now!! At that age I think they either fight you for what they want or tend to go with you, then do it their way! I would suggest holding the bash a long way from home!
Talking about the site, I know speaking to Dave the webmaster, that he has had a lot on, with family & work and has been out of the UK. He has had to move all the websites (6 x he runs!) to a new server of late. so there has been some issues.
It seems a lot of people visit the site, but are mainly after "names". They tend to "lurk" around the site and forums without joining in the community spirit. Come on people join in and help, you will also get help for yourself!!
sorry to hear about the swine fever.
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

Nice to hear from you. Glad you told us about Dave. Had been wondering where he was. Sounds like he has been really busy. I had trouble accessing the site yesterday. Couldn't get on at all. :'( If Dave is having issues with the server that would explain it.

I'll join you in the call for more people to join in. It's fun to hear others stories etc;

Hope to hear from you again soon.

Welcome Gerry - there is life in the universe!! I didnt know Dave did all of this and more. Excellent man.

I agree with you about the Lurkers. If you see how many times this tread has been read compared to the amount of members that have stopped by to say hello.

Its nice to have some kind of a relationship with the people on the site and get to know them. We are spread out all over the world but I know I can complain and Peta and Dawn come to my rescue with their support

Hello evryone.

Welcome Gerry. Glad that you are getting on well here on the forum. I agree with you that the site seems to be a 'let's look and see what I can find but not join in' site. Shame because we're a nice bunch really!!

The move went well. Still seem to have a lot of stuff in boxes but nowhere to put it. Maybe that will change as the other half has decided that he doesn't want to be with me anymore and is moving out. MEN!! Who needs them! So now is the time (after a period of healing and ice-cream gorging) to let my hair down and party!!

Anyway, gotta go

We're back to winter here. Rainy, cold & dreary. but give it a few days & things will be heating up again. It's no wonder I'm sneezing & snuffling with the temp going up & down like a yo yo.

Well got to go
Keep well

I am really looking at trying to change this! Not quite sure how though:)

As you may of noticed on the main site, we have had well over 2 million visitors in 18 months! Fantastic really, but only a small proportion of them come and join in with us here!

I have tried to remember back, when I first started (as most tend to be!) searching on the net for my family research - I was really only looking for names and links to my family.

I shortly realised that there were only a few sites on the net, that have the information required (for most people) - Census, BMD and parish records. A number of them charging for access to the information. But then where else do you go!
Except to personally visit the local archives, in the local counties (where you should of started in the first place!). But there are loads of people that do not live locally to where their family orginated from.

That is really why I started with this site in the first place - to build a community where everyone can help each other out! To supply information, hints, comments and links to help.

As I said earlier, we do not have the information/records/names (except our "Wanted Names") to keep the visitors. We haven't the resources or money to go to the TNA to get a license to transcribe the records (in India) and then publish the information on the net.

So I really think that we will continue to attract loads of visitors - but will only get a few staying :( . Maybe in the future (as I did), they will realise the information is not all on the net and maybe then they will stay on the site and join in our community.

That is unless anyone here has any ideas! We are always open for suggestions.

The move went well. Still seem to have a lot of stuff in boxes but nowhere to put it.
Great to hear dawnlea. Hate moving.

Sorry to hear - but not all men are like that
Go for it girl - enjoy your self :)

Sounds like here in the UK Peewee - Its absolutely throwing it down here today (and yesterday). Were just starting our winter - so a good dreary few months to come! Will have to dig the tablets out ready - theres no end of bugs going round. You girls no what we men are like with our "flu":)

its nice to have some kind of a relationship with the people on the site and get to know them. We are spread out all over the world but I know I can complain and Peta and Dawn come to my rescue with their support
Great comments izabel! Its what we are about.
All the best to all,
Dave

I agree with you Dave & I can't think what you could do do make people stay & chat & then return. :( I joined in for much the same reasons as you but it was Izabels first post on this forum that caught my eye & prompted me to join in. Then I just had to come back & see more. welcome (love this smiley)

It has always amazed me when I log in , How many visitors are online as opposed to members. Also how many sign up as members & never return

Well I like it here. I have a couple of sites I visit & chat in but I spend most of my time here.

I for one will keep returning.

Cheers

Hi Joyce, welcome

Glad to see you on this forum as well. I live in Hillbank Sth Australia, & am 49.
I also have 3 kids the youngest being 15. Sounds like you have a full household there. I don't think I have ever heard of a dog breed called Parmapoo. What mix is it? We only have a cockatiel. I found him in a heap on our back lawn, so he joined the family. My daughter named him charlie & he is quite the character.:2fun:
We used to have a cat as well that was hiding under my sons school office. I took pity on him & took him home as well. Mmmm think I see a pattern emerging here.
Well thats all from me for now. Hope to see you back here again.

Cheers

Hi Izabel,
My name is Kate and I have been living in the UK for the last 5 years - although I was born in England I spent 25 years of my life in Johannesburg - don't hold that against me! I support Western Province and the Stormers - get a bit confused with the name changes now! I am researching all my English ancestors at the moment as I think it is going to be a nightmare trying to trace the South African connection. My husband was born in SA, his mother was South African, and her immediate family came from South Africa, but it gets a bit vague there as I believe I am going to have to research Australia and Irelend as well! If I can get some info from SA then I can work backwards! Pity there is no Census in SA!

Hi Kate, welcome

My name is Peta. Nice to see you here. I posted just above yours so I wont put my details again.
Izabel might be able to give you some hints for your South African connections as she lives there. So keep popping back. I'm sure when she is online next she will let you know where is a good place to try.

Hope to hear from you again.

Hey Peta

I found you:eek: ......still can't believe it either........must be that food i just ate that woke my brain up again.

Well hello to everyone on this thread........i seem to be one of those that can't keep away for a good family history site, so well done you guys. You are all a friendly bunch that is for sure (thanks for the invite Peta)

Now i am here i don't know what to say........laugh, i think i have probably posted enough replies today, i kicked the kids outside to play, (they made a tent out of blankets and pegs) so it is also obviously warm here as well. I mainly chat on MSN, i have a lot of family history friends and family ont here now, however it is nice to try something a bit different.

Hey when people are sending big emails to each other, does anyone have any problems, like the file might be too bit or the inbox to small (noticed that hotmail have not given people a bigger inbox now)

I am been bribed by my daughter at the moment, they want to go to the dairy...........laugh;D

Love the smiliey faces

Smee
