Hello Joyce,

Thank you very much. No, I didn't have that one. It looks like the age on the shipping record is way off. His age at death indicates about 1816:

18 Nov 1866 #11058 age 50 (Aaron Lewton & Ann Hodges)

Daughter Eliza is my GG grandmother.

I have the deaths of his parents in Keynsham but I don't have Ann's birth/baptism or her marriage to Aaron.

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you. It looks like the family with Elizabeth already gone. Daughter Elizabeth was born in 1838 so I guess George and the family were somewhere in 1841 but so far they can't be found.

It is them in 1851 but I was a bit surprised to see them in Wiltshire. LAWTON/LUTON/LEWTON are there any other possibilities? One thing I should add too, spouse Elizabeth was also called Bessie and daughter Elizabeth Ann, Eliza.

A confirmation of the PEACOCK family could be the 1851 with Mary if it shows she was born in Kingswood.

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

I'll have a look on the census which has the Peacock family and see if they are living nearby. There is a Lewton family on the same page Aaron Lewton do you want the details? Dont know when I can do this as I'm busy today got company coming over.

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks for the look up. Actually now there is a problem because there are two Aaron LEWTON/LUTONs:

Aaron LUTON - Batch C008412 Siston, Gloucester
c. 19 Aug 1798 - William & Sarah
c. 25 Nov 1798 - Aaron & Martha
One married Hannah and had children including Matilda.

I know my Aaron married Ann HODGES, date unknown, and son Geoege (in Wiltshire in 1851) was born about 1815. I don't know the baptism date or the occupation or the parents of the Aaron in my tree.

I wonder if my Aaron with spouse Ann and son George were already in Wiltshire in 1841?

Regards,

Dave

1841

Civil parish Bitton
RD Keynsham

Elizabeth Lewton age 10
Matilda age Lewton 14
Rachel Lewton 5

Hello juliejtp,

Please see if by chance the occupation could be 'Pin whitener' or if you can say it is NOT that, it would also help.

There are two Aaron LUTONS:
c. 19 Aug 1798 - William & Sarah
c. 25 Nov 1798 - Aaron & Martha

One married Hannah and one (mine) married Ann HODGES. Because Hannah and Anna/Ann could appear as either I'm hoping Aaron's occupation will allow us to sort out the two families in the 1841 and 1851 census records.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Or it may say 'wiredrawer' a step in the process before the whitening. He possibly progressed to a more skilled job.

I'd say it is the same family - the one who married Hannah. Pity we can't find the other Aaron in 1841 or 1851 with spouse Ann or mother-in-law - just to be conclusive

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

It will probably be another 10 days before I get a reply from Gloucester Council.

The ideal solution would be to find Aaron b. 1798 , spouse Ann, son George b. 1815, daughter Elizabeth b. 1818 and at least one of Aaron's parents in 1841 census ... too much to hope for :2fun:

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

I've been informed that the BRO is moving to a new building and nothing will happen re search requests until April.

However I think I'm in luck:

George Lewton - 13th August 1815 at Hanham Abbots
Son of Aaron & Ann of Grimsby Green
Fathers Occupation - Fish Hawker

Reg: 2a Page: 18 No: 114

George's father-in-law Daniel PEACOCK is a fish monger!!

Daniel Peacock (Bachelor of this parish) & Ann Wilmot (Spinster of this parish)
10th November 1820 at Bitton, St Mary - Banns

That is curious because the 1851 census in Wiltshire and the shipping record indicate Elizabeth was born 1815 not 1821??

So we have the LEWTON/LUTON/LAWTON family

George b. 1815
Elizabeth (Betsy) b. 1815-1821
Elizabeth Ann (Eliza) b. 1838

Please have one more go and see if you can find them in 1841 in Wiltshire.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

It seems that family of 3 can't be found in Gloucester/Somerset /Wiltshire in 1841.

Now, I'm searching for George's sister Elizabeth born 26 Aug 1818 in Bitton.

I think she married a George MAGGS in 1836. I can't find a birth for George.
A daughter Eleanor was born 1839.

Please see if you can find the MAGGS in 1841. Thanks.

Now I'll have to prove it's the right Elizabeth. There is another one who married in her 30s closer to home.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Juliejtp,

Thank you very much. It was a bit of a guess but now I wonder if George & Elizabeth had a sibling Frances. More searching required.

Yes, the family in Wiltshire in 1851 but it seems we can't find them in 1841. Can you search for fields such as occupation and enter 'coach builder'? Just a thought.

Regards,

Dave
