Hi Peter,

First of all my previous reply should have said 1901 not 1851.

I can't find Arthur in 1891 but in1881 there is an eleven year old Arthur ( the only Arthur Smith I can find born Thurmaston) with his grandparents

RG11/3155/F152/p25

Main Road, Thurmaston

George Gilbert 62 Ag Lab Thurmaston
Mary Gilbert 58 wife Seamstress Hosiery Fleckney
Arthur Smith 11 grandson Thurmaston
James Wright 63 Lodger Labourer Leicester

Note the lodger James Wright because in 1871 there is a i year old Arthur Smith living with him

1871 RG10/3267/r124/p22

Grand Hole Thurmaston

James Wright 50 Framework Knitter Leicester
Elizabeth Wright 54 wife Framework Knitter Fleckney
James Wright 26 son Carrier Thurmaston
James Smith father 80 Ag Lab Barrow on Soar
Arthur Smith 1 nephew Thurmaston

Elizabeth Wright and Mary Gilbert are sisters, I have found them in 1841 living together with the surname Smith.

I cannot find a baptism for Arthur, nor can I work out who his parents are or even if they were married. I have found a possible GRO reference for Arthur

Arthur Smith Barrow Dec 1870 vol 7a p142

Thurmaston is in the Barrow registration district according to FreeBMD.

Hope this helps and hasn't just muddied the waters even more¬

And finally... Elizabeth Ann Sharp

Possible GRO ref

Elizabeth Sharp Mar 1875 Barrow vol 7a p140

Parents Charles Sharp, a joiner and Sarah Brown
Charles' mother is Hannah Sharp, a widow in the 1851 Census but I can't find a marriage.

The ref for Charles and Sarahs' marriage
Leicester Jun 1871 vol 7a p 292

and for Charles' birth
Atherstone Sep 1848 vol 16 p 234

Sarah's parents were George Brown born circa 1827 a cod winder, birthplace just given as Leicestershire, and Dinah Lawson born 1830 in Coventry to John Lawson and Sarah. John was a watchmaker. Familysearch has a possible marriage St Michael Civentry 27/8/1827 John Lawson ans Sarah Haristage.

That's all I can find at the moment, hope it helps,

Hi Pete,

Unfortunately in the 1841 Census Elizabeth and Mary are living with a Thomas and Mary Read in Main Street, Thurmaston. The ref is HO107/592/11/F15.

Familysearch has a baptism in Fleckney in 1817 for an Elizabeth Smith, parents James and Ann. I cannot find a baptism for Mary.
