Hi All.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with some relatives I believe to have lived in either of the Brickhills. I am looking for a long time elusive relative Daniel Johnson bc. 1822. I think I have him living in Ham Surrey in 1841 with 3 other Johnsons: James (bc.1791) Ellen/Helen (bc 1826) and a Thomas Johnson (bc.1820) Of these Johnsons I have residing with Daniel I have managed to trace Thomas back to his Father (he was born in one of the Brickhills c.1800 and had a brother called Richard (b around the same time) I am trying to find if the whole Johnson family stem from here originally. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a frustrating development in long term brick wall.

Hi

Just found this on a tree on Ancestry:

Living in Ham Common North, with James Johnson (70+) Thomas Johnson (15) & Ellen/Helen Johnson (15) James is classed as Ind means and strangley the 20 yr old Daniel isn't working. It also says here that Daniel wasn't born in Eng/Wales

So could we be looking at Scotland or further afield??

Just checked the tree with all the census, but it isn't right. In the 1871 census he is suddenly married to Mary with different children but married to Olive again in 1881. Then in 1891 and 1901 married to Mary again.
There is obviously two Daniels, so which are we looking for??

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I think Mary is Olive, at least that's how I've got her on my tree. I think it may be the tree that you've seen on ancestry. She was from the Romany Stanley family and was known by either Olive or Mary and has many different birthplaces although she was born in Berkshire. I am thinking she met Daniel when her family camped on Ham common as I know they spent time in that area. I cannot get anywhere with Daniel (I was wondering if he was possibly born in Ireland as there is a rumour in our family of the Johnsons having Irish heritage) That's why I am trying to find out more about the others that he is with in the 1841 census to see if I can determine a family link further along the line or even rule them out totally as family members. I see that Thomas Johnson's Dad James moved around quite a bit too ( he met his wife in Kent) I know him and his brother Richard originally came from the Brickhills. I can't find any info on James (the one Daniel is living with in Ham) either, it says him, Helen/Ellen & Thomas were born in Surrey but I wondered if some of the info on the 1841 census was wrong esp if James wasn't literate. I hope I'm not confusing matters too much.

Well we know Daniel's father is Joseph and it looks like he was a Poulterer, according to Google " a dealer in poultry and game". I've checked Scotlandspeople but no records are coming up with that name, and I've checked the Irish records available on Ancestry and there isn't anything there, if he is from Ireland, it helps if we know which county he was from :)
