Thank you for your very generous offer. There are many members who cannot afford to join sites if they are not locally based so your offer will open up new avenues.

I am looking for confirmation of the town in Nottinghamshire for

James Otter he married Hannah E ? problably in Sturton.

He had a son Jim (Grandpa Otter) b. 1879

Jim was born in Gainsborough but it appears the family moved back to Nottinghamshire and Jim then immigrated to South Africa and married here.

Any info would be appreciated

Regards
Izabel

Hi Dawn

There are 10 Portwoods in March in the 1901, but only George (b. 1871) and Saul (b. 1844) could be Ada's father.
Saul has already got a daughter called Ada, so here's George's entry

West End, March
George Portwood 30 Railway Goods Porter Norwich, Norfolk
Lilly 28 Chatteris, Cambs
Clara 8 March, Cambs
Lydia 6 "
George 2 "
Harriet 1 month "

The Grangers - there's a choice of three males in March 1901 - Fred & two Georges, so ypu'll need to get a birth cert for him to be sure.

Can't help with the marriage I'm afraid.

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian ;D

Thanks for that. I knew about Saul Portwood but doubted that he was my Ada's father. For a bit, whilst having a blonde moment, I thought that maybe Ada was Ada's mother but then I realised that, duh, she would have changed her name when she married  George sounds like a good possibility though - problem is he was born in Norfolk and the parish registers are notoriously difficult to get hold of. The people in Norwich don't believe in sharing information  Will take the info you've kindly given me and will dig deeper (only problem is that the hole is getting so deep I'm worried that I may not get out!!)

Hi Clanger,

Can I impose on your generosity as well.

I am looking for Henry Healey Sanders born 1891 in Kettering, Northampton.

Married 1915 in Kettering to Annie.E. Gibson born 1892

Father was Robert Sanders born 1848 Rothwell
Mother was Emma Healey born 1853 Kettering.

I have found him on the 1881 census but nothing after as I don't subscribe.
He was suposed to have adopted a daughter Mary but that detail is unclear.

All info I have comes from the family bible which started at Robert, so doesn't mention grandparents
Any help you can find will be greatfully appreciated.

Regards Peta

Thanks Ian,

The 1901 details confirm what I gleened from the family bible. I had nothing on Emma though. looks like my henry healey was named after his maternal grandfather.
I found Robert elusive as well. I need to find his parents I think.
Thanks for your help. Youv'e helped put more pieces in on my puzzle.

Cheers Peta

Thank you so much for your kind offer for a lookup in Ancestry. I seem to have hit a brick wall!!
The person I am trying to locate on the census for 1891 and/or 1901 is Matthew Coulsey. He was born in North Shields on 8th September 1871. His parents were Robert and Mary Ann. I hope you are able to come up with something as I am at a loss!!
Kind regards Joan McEwan (in Australia) which makes it pretty difficult!!!!

Dear Julie,

Thank you so much for the information you looked up and sent to me. You have answered a lot of unanswered quetions I seem to have been having. I am really grateful to you, all the searching I have done and have been unsuccessful.

I will now start searching for a death for Matthew, he was my Grandmothers brother.

Can I impose again for a lost relative.
I am looking for a Henry Healey Sanders B 18/4/1891 in Kettering, Northamptonshire.I have found him in the 1901 census. My querie is that in our family bible he is listed as marrying an Annie.E. Gibson on 1/8/1915. It would have been in Kettering. I have been unable to find a listing anywhere for this marriage. I am at a loss as where to look now. :'(
