Look-up Please! 1901 US Census

Can I please get a look- up of the 1901 US census for James McCrone in Cook, Illinois? Looking for spouse name and their date of arrival specifically although I'll take anything I can get!

Probably not much use to you and you probably have seen the records anyway
On Ancestry there are two James McCrone's in Cook. One in 1930, born 1890, with wife Carlene, and one in 1900 with wife Maggie, and again in 1910 born 1839 with wife Margaret
I don't have World membership so thats all I can get, sorry

Thanks Dave! That's more than I have. I have a Canadian membership so I can only see the year of census with name and place. The second one is possibly them since the spouse ( Margaret/Maggie) and yob seem right - they were married in 1870 in Montreal QC. Maybe the other one is a son?

If anyone can add to this I'd really appreciate it!

There are 2 James McCrone's on the 1900 census in Cook Il. One was a boarder in the home of John Murphy, 60 yrs old, born in Ireland, immigrated in 1850, occupation- Hack Driver. The other James McCrone is 61, born in Canada, parents born in Scotland, born 5/1839, immigrated 1850, carpenter, wife Maggie(she & parents born in Canada) born 5/1848. Children :Jane C 4/76, Maggie 6/77, Grace M 10/79, Jessie 9/82, Minnie 3/86.

Just saw this now! That's more than I was hoping for, thank you both! it's definitely them although if James emigrated in 1850 he must have gone back and forth since his address when he was married in 1870 is given as Montreal.

I do wonder if Willie can be a son if he's 15 in 1910 -unless Margaret had him when she was 50!

Are there earlier US census available online? I'd love to find them in the years between 1870 and 1900 and they don't show up on any Canadian census records.

Have looked at census: 1870 Champaign Il shows James 31, born Canada, carpenter, wife Margaret,24, born Canada.
1880 Vermilion, Il shows age of 31(which would be wrong if this is your James), born in NY, parents born Scotland, carpenter, Wife Maggie 36, children James 9, William 7, Katie 4, Maggie 2, Grace 7 mo.
1910, Cook Il, age 71, carpenter, wife Margaret 65, Grace, sister, 26 born in Il, grandson Willie, 15 born in PA father born in Il, mother born in PA.
I can find him beyond this.

Thanks so much Trace, b00kie- it looks like they took up residence in Ill right after they married and probably only married in Montreal so the bride's family could take part. I wonder how they met in the first place?

Also since there are sons listed in the earlier census I suspect that Willie McCrone listed in 1910 is probably a grandchild.


Is there a source to look up US marriage records in the 1900's, preferably free? My mom remembers a cousin named Charlie Miller- much older than her, coming to visit them in Lachute from Chicago and thinks he might be related to this family. I'd love to see if any of the daughters married a Miller but since there are so many of them it doesn't seem fair to ask someone else to look for me.

Willie is indeed a grandson. I have looked for Margaret beyond the 1910 census, but cannot find her.
Free marriage records are hard to find, but I am always looking! If I find anything I will let you know.
