Looking for birth of Agnes Bridget Hickey

My grandmother was Agnes Bridget Hickey and according to her marriage certificate and several census returns she was born about 1880 in Westminster. Her father was John and a builder at the time of her marriage in 1901. Her mother may have been Mary. Unfortunately I cannot find the birth of Agnes in Westminster. I wonder if she, and family, came from Ireland.
I would appreciate any help on this or any pointers to others claiming birth in westminster for a reason.

I've taken a look at both Ancestry and FMP, and I haven't found a birth or baptism on either and there are some catholic records on on both, including some Irish records on Ancestry. There wasn't a registered birth in Ireland either.I have found sometimes the birth is registered in one name and the baptism can be different.
My grandmother was registered with the middle name of Eleanor and baptised with middle name Nellie. Could she have been known by her middle name?? I don't see an Agnes and a Bridget being used together.

Thank you Amanda.

It's always possible that she could have been known by her middle of Bridget. I looked up FMP and there are a number of Bridgets so I'll keep looking.

Strangely her marriage certificate shows just Agnes and her death certificate shows Agnes Bridget. I also wonder if her birth being in Westminster was ficticious then maybe her age could also be contrived.

Unfortunately I never did get the chance to talk to her as I was just 1 when she died, my grandfather, her husband died 10 years before I was born.

Best wishes

I have been looking further and found a census entry in 1881 which could be Agnes with her parents. In the census entry the name is Bridget aged 3, so born 1878 and in Lambeth. Her parents, if it is correct, are John and Ellen (who was Hogan but that could be a name by first marriage). But I still have no luck finding a birth record for Agnes or Bridget.

You are right John was a widower and Ellen a widow. I only found banns for the marriage which took place at St Mary Lambeth 16th May1875, the original isn't available on Ancestry or FMP.

I think John married Catherine Buckley in 1854 St George Southwark, however, there is another Catherine married at the same time she was Catherine Conway.
I haven't found a marriage for Ellen yet

Thanks everyone for looking.

I am still short of a birth for my grandmother, Agnes Bridget or Agnes or Bridget.

I also don't know whether the family I found in the 1881 census is actually my family - I have no proof.

Regards

Peter

I now have a marriage certificate for John Hickey (Widower) and Ellen Hogan (widow), her father was Thomas Carroll (I think it is) who were married in 1877 at St George's Catholic Church in St Saviour's Southwark.

I've also found a marriage index record for Ellen Carroll and Thomas Hogan in 1865 in West Bromwich which might fit her birth place in census being Birmingham.

However, I still have no birth for Agnes Bridget in about 1878, or her sister Mary in 1881. Are there other records for Catholic births/baptisms?

Wouldn't my grandmother have needed a birth certificate for her marriage in 1901?

Searched for a birth on GRO with mmn Carroll, but there aren't any. I looked for Catholic baptisms and didn't find anything there either.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I have a lot of information about the Hickeys and Hogans but can anyone suggest a way that I can be sure that this family is the one that I am related to via my grandmother Agnes bridget Hickey?

But isn't that the problem?? we can't find the information for Agnes Bridgit Hickey  The only birth I could find in Lambeth in 1880 was for Ellen Hickey mmn Hogan, and the other birth was in Croydon in 1878 where Agnes' marriage took place for a Anne Florence Alice Fayrer Hickey mmn Hume.

I find it really strange because I too have a Hickey/Hogan marriage in 1840. My 3x g grandfather Thomas Charles Hickey married Elizabeth Nixon nee Hogan in Shoreditch.

I have already started to look at the Catholic angle, contacting the Catholic Family History Society and also St George's Cathedral where John and Ellen were married. Both have replied and are now trying to help. I will also try the Catholic Heritage as suggested.

I had no previous inclination that my grandmother, Agnes Bridget Hickey, was Catholic or came from a Catholic family or maybe she wasn't and this family are not the right one.

I get the feeling that both Hickeys and Hogans originated in Ireland and many were probaby Catholic and may have lived in small areas of London and there may have been numerous Hickey/Hogan marriages.

The search goes on.
