Looking for Cranston family in Bradford, West Yorkshire

I am trying to find some details about my husbands family. His father was Norman Middow Cranston.He died in 1983 in Bradford. He was born about 1925 we think. His father was called Arthur Cranston and his mother Edith. We know that somewhere along the line were some Riley's but don't know how they fit in.
Can anyone help, please.

Norman has a sister Betty who is still alive but we have no contact with her. She went on to marry Stanley White. I doesnt mention Betty as one of Normans siblings. mmmmm..... that's strange.

Norman had an auntie Minnie who we thought was Arthurs sister and it does not show her either.

Betty was born mar qtr 1938 Bradford ref 9b 243. Her mother had been transcribed as Farrar, so I discounted it as it was not Farrer, she married 1955

I can't see a Minnie Cranston, but there are one or two Minnie Farrar's. The most likely is Minnie born Sep qtr 1904 Bradford ref 9b 48, which would make her Ediths sister. I'll see if I can confirm this

The latest census does not say Minnie is Ediths sister

I wonder if Mary Eliza could have been nicknamed Minnie as Mary Eliza was Arthurs sister? If Mary is Minnie she had daughters called Jean, and Nellie and sons Harry and John, we think.

You could have something there, There are two children with the names you quote born Bradford

I wonder what that can mean then, if they were called Riley and Mother was called Cranston then that would not fit really as it said that Mary Eliza got married in 1931 so she would have been called Riley not Cranston when Nellie and John were born????

Hi Dave please can you tell me where you came across the above info. The reason I ask... My Grandmother - Mary Elizabeth Riley nee Cranston 1901 - 1984... married Harry Riley in 1931. My Dad was John William Riley. Now all my life I have know Jean E and James A to be my Dad's sister and brother. The info above suggests they are his cousins (Arthur Cranston was my Grandmothers brother) Very intriguing???

After having another look, it appears I have made an error. Norman and Betty have a mother Farrer whilst Jean and James have a mother Cranston. So it looks as if Mary had Jean and James before she married. Sorry for any confusion
