looking for Ellen Stannard please

Trying to find Ellen Stannard born around 1848 Peasonhall Suffolk, i know she married Robert Riseborough in 1886, although she had 5 children before she married, i checked to see if she had been married before, couldn't find anything, the only snag would be if she had married before, her birth name would not be Stannard, any help would be appreciated.

She had Ellen born 1878,
Ada Maria 1881,
William 1883,
John 1884,
Bessie 1885.
On the 1881 census she was with Robert, Ellen daug, Ada daug, and was down as his wife.

The GRO reference for the marriage of Ellen and Robert is June 1886 Hartismere vol 4a page 952.

If you send off for the certificate it should give her surname at the time of the marriage as well as her maiden name if she had been married before.

I have got Robert Riseborough and Ellen Stannard marriage cert, (1886) it has down she was a spinster, and her age is given as 33, so going by that she was born 1853, on the 1901 census her age is given at 51, Roberts 45, i know the ages were not always right, still can't work out why wait till 1886 to marry, when the first child was born 1878, i'm very puzzled

Hi Lighty,
I had rellies who had several children before marriage, it's not that uncommon. Neither is the age of 33.
But a little more investigation would not hurt to make sure.

I even had one who got baptised the week before she got married.

Just a thought. Could the children be Robert's from a previous marriage and Ellen is actually their stepmother?

I've found a possible birth for Ellen.

Stannard Ellen Jun 1848 Blything 13 436

Blything is the registration district for Peasonhall.

What is more puzzling though, is that I can't find the births of the children. The only one who appears on FreeBMD is

Riseborough Bessie May Sep 1885 Plomesgate 4a 815

Anyway, hope this helps.

I couldn't find any births before Bessie May (1885), they went on to have another 6 children after Bessie, found all of them, there was also a Stanley Plant Riseborough Born June qtr,1891 Died Mar qtr, 1893,she had a child in June 1893, called him Stanley plant .It's strange why the other children are not listed.

Ancestry. I left the first names out put in year of birth also using the plus and minus.

I don't have Ancestry, I used FreeBMD and couldn't find them. Sometimes I think I ought to subscribe to all the sites in order to be sure of finding the info. Bit too expensive though. Sorry, I'll stop wandering off topic!

I also was looking on free BMD and couldn't find them, Alfred John born 1884 could be the John i have down, the only one thats missing is Ellen i know there are a few Ellen Riseboroughs for 1878 ish in that area, cheers Julie.
