Hi there,
I'm trying to trace details of Albert Edward Simpson Charlwood (often just listed as A.E.S. Charlwood) - he served in the Royal Field Artillery (but wasnt the only A Charlwood to do so).
He was made a 2nd Lieutenant in Feb 1917, and became Commandant of a POW camp in March 1919 - other than that I have very few details (as I cant ascertain which is correct chap in 1911 census) - if anyone has come accross him in their research would be most grateful.
Many thanks

Hi

There is an address on one of his service papers:
53 Montserrat Road, Putney...

There is also another, separate record for an Archibald John Wallace Charlwood giving the same address, his occupation is described as 'actor'. 14th Batt' London Reg' (London Scottish).

In 1901 there is an Archibald is at school with what looks to be his brother, Leonard.

Archd Charlwood
Age: 13
Born abt 1888 Forest Gate, London
Scholar

Civil Parish: Islington
Ecclesiastical parish: St Andrew
County: London
Reg Dist: Islington
Sub-Reg Dist: Upper Holloway
ED: 11
RG13; Piece: 159; Folio: 161; Page: 55

Archd Charlwood 13
Leonard Charlwood 14
***
Possibles:
Births Q3 1889
Charlwood Archibald John
Islington
Vol 1b Page 192

Births Q4 1887
Charlwood Leonard Wilfrid
Islington
Vol 1b Page 249

There are possibilities for Albert, but the initials can be an issue.

Geoff

Edit: Archibald's age in 1916 (27y) fits with the above birth.

E/R 1918
Albert's address is still Montserrat Road, but he is an absent voter:
Albert Edward Charlwood
Year: 1918
County/Borough: Wandsworth
Ward or Division/Constituency: Wandsworth
Address: 53 A/M. Naval Airship

It's a little complicated...

I can't link Albert and Archibald directly, even though they have the same address on one of their service papers.

Archibald is in a nursing home in 1911 (private means), but there is no Albert with his family in 1891 or 1901, there is an Edward A, son, however.

There was another address on Albert's service paper:
6 Park Road, Brecknell, Berkshire [probably Bracknell]

Perhaps Albert is a relative of Archibald, but not a brother.

Geoff
