My grandmother was Mary Rosina Stuart. Her birth was registered in Lamberth c1874. I can find no trace of her family in the 1881 or 1891 census's.
She married Albert William Hoare c1898 and is shown in the 1901 census.
Can anyone help me find her parents please.

Thanks in anticipation
Dave

No I don't, that is my problem. My only information about her is that she is related to the Stuarts from the Isle of Bute. I have no idea if there were any siblings.
Someone who tried to help suggested her father/family came from Devon.

I did find a Mary F (misread 'R'?) Stuart in the 1981 census aged 13 born in London but the parish was St Pancras not Lambeth.

The same family in 1901

Civil parish Wealdstone
County Middlesex

Wm Stuart age 69 occ newsagent/shopkeeper born Axminster Devon
Rosina wife age 49 born Teignmouth
Florence dau age 33 occ stationers asst born Lambeth
Joeph son age 25 occ clerk ----- ------ born Lambeth

Suggest that you get Mary Rosina's marriage certificate, this will give you the fathers name and occ and her birth certifcate as well which will give you fathers name and mother maiden name.

Hi juliejtp

Many thanks for your help.

It looks like you have put me on the right track, my main source of information was my mother but she died in 2003 and vague memories of names from my childhood. As I was born in 1951 I never knew my grandparents though I think one them died in 1954.

I will certainly get the certificates. I hope I can trace William Stuart's family back to Scotland as my mother told me Mary's family came from the Isle of Bute. If this is the right family then my father was named after Mary's father. My middle name is Stuart and I have passed this on to my 3 sons as well!

Thanks again
Dave

Hi Dave,

it is always best to go with certified proof to get you back to 1901. start with yourself and work backwards,

so parents marriage cert, Mothers birth cert, her parents marriage then their births...

this helps to prove your findings and also when you purchase any certificates the informants or witness' names can help tie in that all important connection.
