I am struggling to find the birth of Robert Hoare. The 1901 census shows his age as 18 months and born in Hornsey, Middx. His parents are George Joseph Hoare and Emma Maria Hoare (Maiden name also Hoare!}. I have found the family in the 1911 census - mother is now a widow. They are living with a married daughter of the Hoare marriage. There is no mention of Robert in the 1911 census. Looking at the 1911 census it is likely that Robert has a middle name as the other family members all have one.
Can anyone offer any help or advice please?

Hi Dave,

Hornsey would be 3a Edmonton. Can't see a death in Middx 1899 - 1911 for a Robert who fits. Was hoping to find his middle name.

Can't see a birth as Robert Hoar/Hoare/Hore.

There is a Robert Edward Hall but that does not fit with mmn Steel.

For some reason FS lists the youngest three in this order which is odd for several reasons.

Henry Hoare Son M 3 Walthamstow, Essex
Albert Hoare Son M 0 Walthamstow, Essex
Robert Hoare Son M 1 Hornsey, Middlesex

HOARE , HENRY ALFRED - HOARE
GRO Reference: 1898 M Quarter in WEST HAM Volume 04A Page 433

HOARE, ALBERT FREDERICK - HOARE
GRO Reference: 1900 D Quarter in WEST HAM Volume 04A Page 442 Occasional Copy: A

Some change has been made to that reg.

I looked for Robert assuming age 1 in census was wrong. And I looked without using Robert in case that was a middle name swapped at census time and still can't find a reg that fits with mmn Hoare, etc.

If age 1 is correct in census then I can't find Robert in 1911 or a death in England 1901 - 1911 that fits for age. So age is wrong and or middle name swapped with first. ??

I've looked for a baptism on FS but other members can look further.

Can't think of anything else to try.

Not that it helps much but the 1901 Census gives Robert's age as 16mths and that of Albert as 5 mths. Seems odd that the two boys born either side of Robert were born Walthamstow yet he was born Hornsey. Is it possible that he wasn't actually a Hoare but was possibly being fostered and was given the Hoare surname by accident.

Thanks for all your replies.
I have been doing some more digging and have come up with this;
There is an older sister called Caroline Jane born 1886 and in 1904 she married a Walter Stanley MOORE who was 10 years her senior. I guess it's possible that Robert was an illegitimate child of Caroline and Stanley who either died or was adopted. In the 1911 census Caroline and Stanley have a son with the name Walter Robert but he is only 3 years old, birth registered June 1/4 1907 West Ham, so that rules him out as the one in the 1901 census.
Still it is strange there is no birth record for him and just for the record Emma Maria Hoare (ie his mother in the 1901 census) was born in HORNSEY!!
