Hi there,

I am looking for a marriage between Patrick McLaughlin/Mc Laughlin/McLochlan and Rose McNulty/Mc Anulty sometime between 1828 and 1832. Their first child was baptised in 1832 in Hull, Yorkshire. It seems all their later children were also born in Hull. Both Patrick and Rose are listed as born in Terone (Tyrone?) in Ireland, Rose being born 1819, and Patrick in 1811.

The second marriage I am looking for is for James Mclaughlin/Mclochlan (born about 1841 in Hull) to Mary Jane Punshon/Punshor/Puncheon, who was born about 1846 in Jarrow.

Thank you so much, as always.

If Rose was born 1819 she'd only have been 13 when having her first child in 1832.

Also do you have John and Mary Jane in any of the Censuses to give a clue as to when they may have married.

Opps yep, just noticed this. Well I found the right family on the 1851 census in Hull, Rose McLaughlin and Patrick McLaughlin and children. Rose gives her birth year on the census as 1819. On this census, there is Ann McLaughlin born 1832, who is listed as a daughter. I guess this is what is confusing. I believe I found her baptism in Dec 1832 in Hull with Rose McNulty listed as the mother. Anyway, I checked the GRO index for the birth of their son James McLaughlin/McLochlan (one of my 3 x great grandfathers) and he was born 1841 in Hull, with maiden name as McNulty. I am really confused about what is going on there?

Edit: Found James's brother John McLochlen, also born in Kingston-Upon-Hull...in 1839. But mother's maiden name is spelt slightly different: MCINHALTY

Also do you have John and Mary Jane in any of the Censuses to give a clue as to when they may have married.
I only have Mary Jane and James McLaughlin on the 1871 census.

I can't see a marriage for Patrick and Rose in England but, of course they may have married in Ireland.

I have found the following batisms at the Hull Catholic Chapel, Sculcoates

Anne McLoughlin born 15 Dec 1832 bapt. 23 Dec 1832 parents Patrick Mcloughlin and Rose formerly McNulty

Margaret Mc Loghlin born 17 Jan 1835 bapt 22 Feb 1835 parents Patrick and Rose formerly Mc Annalty

John McLoughlin born 18 Dec 1838 bapt 6 Jan 1939 parents Patrick and Rose formerly McNalty.
