Louis Bilton. 1859-1937.

Louis Bilton born 1859 Stoke on Trent, death 14th. Nov. Sidbury, Devon.
Louis was born into a potteries family his father John and mother Ann. He worked as a ceramic artist in Staffordshire, Australia and USA ending his career with Doulton.
Try as a may I cannot find his burial place, he is not buried in any of the cemeteries around Sidbury or the church there. His mother and father are buried at Maer, Staffordshire but he is not with them. I can't find an obituary for him either. His cousin Annie Louise Wolfe was a life long friend and companion, they lived and traveled together for many years so I suspect that they are buried together. Annie died in 1959 Exeter, Devon but I can't find her burial either, she was the sole beneficiary of Louis's will. Any help in finding their burial place would be appreciated. Thank you.

I couldnt find one neither, no death notice, funeral notice or obit that i could see.

On Antree there is a passenger list for 21st March 1925 - Louis Bilton aged 65 and Annie Wolfe 50 House keeper(dob 1875)are listed with an address Cliff Park Lodge, Leeds
This is at odds with the Annie Louisa Wolfe who died in 1959 aged 67 giving dob 1892.

There also an arrival from USA on 13 Sep 1931 with Louis Bilton age 72 and Anne L Wolfe age 60 with address Marsh Street, Stoke on Trent

Both these put Anne Wolfe as a lot older than the person who died in 1959.

The Cliff Park Lodge, Leeds is not them but the Marsh Street, Stoke on Trent is. They lived in East Liverp[ool, Ohio from 1925 to 1931. The GRO for Annie is 1871, S Quarter in STOKE UPON TRENT Volume 06B Page 210.

We know surprisingly little about the life of Louis Bilton as even his death date is not known.

I think some of these 'facts' need correcting. No birth date on this one.

If both parties are buried in the same place then I would assume it is between Sidford and Exeter as they are only some 16 miles apart.
Not easy tracking down cemeteries.

I find this all very strange in that the only newspaper reports of Louis death are foreign in origin. For someone who had worked at Doulton it would have at least had a comment - but I have searched high and low and found nowt!!

Hi Peter,
Thats the only report I have found, he lived there for 6 years with his cousin Annie Louise Wolfe. He returned to Devon after that and named his house St.Clair which was the name of East Liverpool before it changed so he must of liked the place. I also find that he seems to have dissapeared completely after his death as dis Annie after her death also I have been unable to find a photograph of him any where despite all his mentions in the newspapers.

Louis Bilton is a bit of an enigma - cannot find St Clair Malden estate in Sidford. Cannot find Anne L Wolfe in 1939 register - its as if they just left no trace.
All very odd.
